Audi Plans To Kick BMW To The Curb By Doubling Down On SUV Lineup

Audi Plans To Kick BMW To The Curb By Doubling Down On SUV Lineup
Audi plans to double its lineup of SUVs by 2020 to close the sales gap behind BMW as more customers seek high-riding vehicles with the cachet of a luxury brand.

The Volkswagen Group unit is developing the Q2, Q4 and Q6 as a sportier alternative to its current range of three SUVs, according to a person familiar with the strategy, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren't public.

"Audi is really the first with a grand plan to mirror" its car offerings with corresponding SUVs, said Christoph Stuermer, an analyst with researcher IHS Automotive in Frankfurt. "The SUV package, with its high seating position, is similar to those beautiful, upright cars from the 1920s. This could become the normal car in the premium segment."

Sportbike82, the "rebadged Volkswagen golfs" you speak of must be some pretty impressive golfs considering they consistently beat their BMW SUV counterparts in comparison tests.

When Audi has a full-lineup of sporty, even-numbered SUVs to compliment its odd-numbered luxury counterparts, BMW will not stand a chance to matching Audi's annual sales numbers.

I take pride in bashing these BMW fanboys with factual information and watching them respond with "but but Audi is just a rebadged Volkswagen" or "the RS lineup is a joke."

It's funny how the BMW fan boys attack with no facts or substance to support their claims.

MercedesSL, did you see the AutoExpress comparison at the end of 2012 between the Audi Q3 and BMW X1? The Audi Q3 won:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/x1/61281/bmw-x1-vs-audi-q3

How about this review:

http://topcar.co.za/road-tests/comparisons/audi-q3-vs-bmw-x1-vs-range-rover-evoque/

The Audi Q5 defeated the BMW X3, MB GLK350, Volvo XC90 and Lexus RX350 in a previous C&D comparison test:

The Audi Q7 also defeated the BMW X5 in a previous C&D comparison test:

So, BMW gets the occasional win but Audi continues to dominate with many more wins than BMW over the last 5 years.

Germannut ... that is all? We can go back in the last 10 years & I bet Audi has only bested BMW in comparison tests about 20 times. How many comparison tests has the 3-series bested Audi, or the 5-series or the X5 or other cars in the lineup? There is not enough space on this website to go back and find every comparions test between Audi and BMW.

Is it possible to have a different agrument? How bout praising the car & quit trying to find a way to bash the competition as it just shows lack of maturity.

BMW4me4ever, perhaps you fail to realize the tide is changing. Audi has made huge gains in the last 5 years against BMW and Mercedes-Benz and continues its progress at record pace. Just look at the comparison test results and sales growth over the past 5 years and you will see Audi's momentum.

Until the BMW fanboys learn to respect Audi and stop making childish remarks, I will defend the brand.

lol ... I have never said that Audi is not making good strides as is BMW, Mercedes, Porsche. I just find every one of your posts have the same statements. Please look at every comparison test over the last 5years as you will see BMW has won more than it has lost to Audi. All you have to do is look at the 3-series sedan comparison tests ...

Blah, blah, blah BMW fanboys ... lol ...

There have been maybe 12 wins for BMW in the 3-series comparison tests, but Audi has won in every other class. Overall, over the past 5 years, Audi has the clear advantage.

Blah, blah, blah Audi hasn't made strides. Yes, it absolutely has and it has been at the expense of BMW.

"BMW Breaks Down And Copies Audi With AWD For New Models From The Start"
Headline from 2/12/13.

""Audi is really the first with a grand plan to mirror" its car offerings with corresponding SUVs, said Christoph Stuerme.

So Audi is coping ever model SUV BMW is putting out and the headline we get is "Audi Plans To Kick BMW To The Curb By Doubling Down On SUV Lineup"

You gotta be kidding me.
