Rendering Or Leak? BMW 4 Series Convertible Surfaces On the Web

Way ahead of its unveil in 2014, the BMW 4 Series makes an appearance on the interwebs. The blurry and obviously blown up image shows the F33 4 Series Cabriolet with a similar body design as the 4er Coupe revealed in Detroit last month.

The image seems to come from the usual BMW insider Scott27 who also says that this is one of the many prototypes but the details are 90 percent close to the “real deal”. As always, we advise you to take these rumors with a grain of salt, but here is what we know about the new 4er Convertible.

Curious to see how well is will sell in cold weather markets. I think it will be the only AWD hardtop convert in the world.

The biggest problem a xDrive hard top convertible will be weight. The current 335i convertible weights in a 4,000 pounds while optioning xDrive will add ~200 pounds more for a total of 4200 pounds. To put this in perspective, a 740i weighs 4,310 pounds. So yes, this will be an obscenely heavy car. I'm not really sure how this even ties in to BMWs latest mantra of "BMW EfficientDynamics". The heavier you build a car, the less efficient it becomes.

that's weird, there's "quotation marks" around all that, implying you are "quoting" something someone else wrote or said. Which is strange, because the ACTUAL quote (from http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/track-tests/2014-acura-rlx-track-test.html) was

"Branding is tricky business. Do it correctly and your product can flourish with minimal change (see: Coke). Do it incorrectly, and it doesn't matter how good the product is. Selling it is going to be an uphill battle (see: Blackberry).

And, as with Blackberry (née RIM), the changing of a product name is a bold, sometimes desperate attempt at brand strategy. Good-bye, brand equity; hello, blank slate. This year, the front-drive 2014 Acura RLX replaces the slow-selling all-wheel-drive Acura RL (which was killed in 2012). That's right, Acura's added an "X" and removed standard all-wheel drive from its $60,000 luxury flagship sedan in an effort to increase desirability. (All-wheel drive will be available on the 370-horsepower Acura RLX Hybrid.)"

Notice the difference there? Right at the end? It's not a "quote" when you "make it up".

While I appreciate why this car is so much appreciated by many it just doesn't have that edge, brio or machine&man bonding dynamics of BMW's of old. I'm looking more to the 2 series or particularly the M2 to be a lighter, more responsive and better handling BMW for those of us who put driving fun above all else. I may be old and old school but the 4 series is just too grown up for me.

Gee....it's the spitting image of the E93 (outgoing model). This is not a bad thing but it goes to show that BMW is not messing with a successful design.
