Too Many That Look Alike? - Sorting Out the Aston Martin Product Mix

In the last two years, Aston Martin has offered six different models. They’re all rear-wheel drive. They all look the same. They all offer V12 engines with roughly 500 horsepower. And yet the most expensive one costs twice as much as the cheapest one.

If you’re confused, so are Aston dealers. The rich people who buy them aren’t, but that’s only because they arrive at the dealer, point to the one they want, and say “that one,” without regards to whether it’s a DB9, a Vanquish or a showroom alloy wheel display. Not that they could tell the difference anyway.

Wait Aston Martin looks too similar? But we would never see such a title for audi on audispies . There FWD, all use the same 2.0, they all look the same yet the most expensive one is 5 times as much as the cheapest!!

Quite possibly the biggest waste of automotive writing I've seen in a while. Does it really matter? The educated rich person will go in and know which car they want to buy. The non-car enthusiast buyer will go in there and tell them how much they want to spend. Seems like a much easier shopping experience to me.

At the end of the day, the entire Aston line is possibly THE most aesthetically pleasing line of cars extant. Let it be.

Did any of you read the article? It's spot on and quite amusing. Aston Martin has made some puzzling product-marketing decisions for what has been, and continues to be, essentially the same car--and NOT in the way that the Panamera is the same as the 911 is the same as the Cayenne is the same as the Boxster. (I mean, really the same, as in; same sausage, same size, slightly different casing but wildly differing prices.) Yes, it's a delicious sausage, but if you feel like your customer needs variety, then make it real.
