Detroit’s Biggest Quandary? Women Do Not Like To Buy American Cars
Women helped drive vehicle sales last year, influencing four of every five purchases, and with their names on the registration of a record 39 percent of all new cars sold.

But Detroit's Big Three automakers still face challenges when it comes to female buyers: Many women prefer foreign automakers over domestics.

"The bad news is, domestics aren't doing as well as the import brands, but the good news is it's improving," said Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry analysis at online research site TrueCar.com. "There's still the mindset (among women) where domestics don't make good cars — and if you have any kind of money and status, you buy an import car."

It is a simple: Women don't need to compensate for small endowment, therefore no reason to buy a polluting macho-dummie farm wagon!

More like women are more likely to worry about reliability.

"Women don't need to compensate for small endowment"

There are a lot of rich cosmetic surgeons who are glad you're wrong.

1CarSmart1, Your comments are truly laughable. Your philosophical utopian mindset has given you tunnel vision and your obsession with the phallus has shrouded your ability to think clearly.

Even after taking out the SUV figure, females still prefer imports to domestic cars, which leaves small to mid-size cars. Maybe the women prefer these cars made by the foreign mfrs because they're simply better made. And that is because the foreign mfrs have made those mid-size and smaller cars longer, have better understanding of those driving environments (smaller streets, expensive gas, etc. found in Europe and Asia), and concentrate their research & mfr on these cars. The foreign mfrs have longer track record, they focus on these smaller segments, so they're better than the US car mfrs at making the smaller to mid-size economical cars. And yes the US mfrs have improved their smaller cars but so have the imports, and the perception from years of noticeable difference still stay in buyers' mind. AS long as the US mfrs channel a fair amount of their resources towards SUVs and muscle cars, they will be at a disadvantage to the foreign mfrs when it comes to the smaller car segments.

It may sound chauvinistic but its actually marketing profiling...imports mean reliability, style, craftsmanship and sense of far away lands. The answer is for American companies to be more elegant in design (not so heavy handed) and hire world class shoe and dress designers to offer options women like...colors, style, fabrics etc. Treat women options like fashion accessories not appliances.

of course. In America, all women feel they DESERVE a 650 convertible and an X5. They see the money it costs, so they want it. Just Louboutin shoes and Vuitton purses.
If an X5 was $20k, they would want it.
