Death Of a Pony Car? Next Gen Mustang To Only Come As 4 Cylinder In European Trim
The future generation of the Ford Mustang will only become available with an EcoBoost based engine on the Old Continent, once the model will arrive sometimes next year.

Rumors on Ford sharing the same engine on the Focus ST and on the Mustang have been recently confirmed, unfortunately, and the future generation of the popular muscle car will only come with an EcoBoos based engine in Europe. This could be the beginning of the end of the Mustang in Europe because a muscle car is only bought because of its large engine and impressive torque, and with that gone away, the Mustang will probably be buried under a pile of dust in showrooms.

Alarmist, unfounded rubbish for the time being. The same source that provided info on the EcoBoost also says that the 5.0 V8 will be available as well. So what "death" are we talking about when Europe is basically getting a more fuel-efficient engine in place of the V6 option (the EcoBoost being tweaked to produce 300hp)?

Hey, it could be worse, it could be a 3-cylinder "NoBoost" engine and FWD...

The 8 cylinder engine in fact will still be offered in Europe. Some sites put up crazy titles for page views and this is a prime example.

"European buyers who feel that a Mustang should only have a V8 engine will be offered that as well."

Sounds like a load of crap to me. File this under "absolute rumor" for now.

I don't doubt it...gas very expensive in Europe. True European Muscle lovers will buy the V8 and the plyers (like V6 buyers in US) will buy the 4 cylinder. It will not win any stop light battles but the 4 cylinder could be a good handler considering how much lighter it will be.

It's going to share more than the Engine with the Focus ST, if the "Bean Counters" inside Ford have their way.
The Next Generation "Mustang" will be AWD on the GT and above models....Lx and Base will be FWD.
There MIGHT be a V6 but NO V8,based upon a "World Chassis", most likely the Focus.Hope the Accountants loose this one but, the argument that "what other RWD Models would we build? Not cost effective"

Pretty sure the 4-cyl. engine is much more powerful than the V6's the Mustangs had back in the day.
