Closest Look Yet at the BMW M4 Coupe.

Closest Look Yet at the BMW M4 Coupe.
We have spied the F82 M4 coupe again and here is the most revealing look yet at what appears to be a production ready M4. With the great look that we have here, here's a list of notable elements that we see.

• Double slatted kidney grilles
• M4 badge on kidney grilles (a la M6) (currently covered)
• LED headlights
• LED tail lights
• Carbon ceramic brakes (optional) being tested in signature gold color (just as on F80 M3 prototype)
• Hood power dome/bulge
• Sculpted double-bubble carbon fiber roof (like M6 Coupe)
• Production side mirrors (still under camouflage)
• Integrated trunk spoiler
• Wide fenders
• Slanted exhaust tips
• Production sideskirts
• Wearing Continental ContiSportContact tires - 275/35 rear (like F80 M3)
• Gap in front fender for air breather vent? Location is too high to be the same 'boomerang' vent seen on the 3 Series GT and 4 Series Coupe prototypes, but it could take another form on the M4.
• Rear bumper design more clearly seen through camouflage now, which appears to have an aggressive squared-off design at the edges - a bit like the the F30 M Sport rear bumper.

What about the F82 M4 mechanicals? If you recall, we recently reported on information gleaned from the M4 prototype's registered VIN information (see here).

The highlight is the 310kW (415 hp) S55 3.0L inline 6 engine listed [photos]. Consistent with the information we've been posting, this would have the next M3 and M4 featuring similar horsepower figures to the current M3 (414 hp) from the 3.0L inline 6 multi-turbo S55 engine. But, we've also been previously told by a trusty source familiar with F80/F82 development that the cars will boast approximately 100 lb-ft more torque (in range of 395 lb-ft).

I have already made up my mind that this will be my next car, and first BMW M car! I love the proportions of this M4 already, and the fact it's going back to the straight 6. Now if only 2014/15 could get here quicker.

She looks to be about the size of an Audi A5/S5/RS5, which is too big for me.

Here's hoping the new 1M won't be too fugly looking or fwd based.

The new M4 is rumored to be around 300lb lighter than the last m3, which was already over 250lb lighter than the rs5. Plus the new 4 series is lower and wider than the old 3 series. The new 2 series/m2 that will come to the us is bases off the RWD 1 series so it will definitely be RWD.

BMW6 - - - Still drinking the BMW kool-Aid I see. Car for car, the RS5 is the same weight as the last M3. The RS5 is all wheel drive (x-drive system adds ~195 lbs) and has a dual clutch steptronic transmission (the BMW version adds 110 lbs to the equation). So in relative terms, we have the same weight. Its still puzzling how the RS5 is faster 0 to 60 and gets better fuel economy with all that added weight? Let's face it, in the last few years, BMW has not been known for building light weight cars. Case in point, the BMW Z4 sDrive135is weighs a mind boggling 600 lbs more than it's primary competitor, the Porsche Boxster S.

That's a lot of nice hypothetical assumptions, but the FACT it the current M3 is 250 lbs lighter. M3 doesn't have AWD., nor does the RS5 have RWD. personally I would do not find AWD appealing in a performance car, and the AWD weight is audis disadvantage. Also the Rs5 is not faster or more fuel efficient. I'm sure there are a few where it shows that, but there are also reviews where the m3 acceled over the rs5 in those areas. A lot of people also make the mistake of comparing a recent review of a cars data and comparing it to an older review of another cars, that was tested in another location, time of year ect. Find a review where the are tested together in the same article same time. Off the top of my head I know MT and C&D reviewed both together a few years ago, and the M3 topped the RS5 in almost every category,.More Importantly the m3 has beaten or been picked over the RS5 in a vast majority of the reviews.

RS5 4040 lbs
M3 3060 lbs with DCT

0-60
RS5 4.4
M3 4.3

0-100
RS5 10-4
M3 9.9
number from Car and Driver

The Audi does get better fuel economy, the first I look for in this type of car.

As far as the Boxster vs. Z4 weight, hard top convert.

psst. The RS5 has lost every comparison test to the M3 & this is the old body style. It is slower 0 - 60 , 0 to 100, 1/4 mile, on a race track . Who cares about 1 or 2 mpg difference in fuel economy as Noone is purchasing either car for the Fuel Economy.

I didn't look at test data, I just used the information on the Audi and BMW websites and extracted the weight data based on BMW published weights for X-Drive and Steptonic. And yes, the websites show that the heavier RS5 is more fuel efficient and has a faster 0 to 60 time. I'm not pimping for Audi since I've never owned one, but rather have owned BMWs for ~20 years. I just like accurate data void of any BMW marketing. BMW is not headed in a very good direction right now. 3-sales are down, the new M5 is not getting glowing reviews, and the new 6 coupe while stylish is a fat pig - - - up to almost 4,700 lbs in some configurations.

When is the last time the manufacture website was accurate? LOL, we are constantly hearing about engines being underrated, acceleration times being conservative, EPA estimates being off...I would trust the results of multiple cars being instrument tested at the same time.

News flash "3" series sales will never be as high as they were. First they are selling a new sedan body style along side the old coupe, which will become the 4 series. So, obviously the new 4 series sales will be separate from the sedans going forward, unlike in the past. Second the current coupe most likely is not sell in very high volume right now or ever since the F30 came out. When the customer goes to the show room looking for coupe and can visually see the new sedan, they are going to hold off for the new coupe...BUT I guarantee when the new 4 series is out if you add them to the new 3 series they will exceed the last generation coupe/sedan numbers. And the 6GC weight with x drive is 4600, but any car in this class equally equipped is over 4300lb...Plan on taking any car in this class to the track? lol.

Also the next 7 series has already been confirmed to extensively use carbon fiber and aluminum in its construction which will dramatically reduce its weight. So don't worry then trend has already started to reverse.

Have you driven the 650xi Gran Coupe? it is spectacular to drive. Drive one and then compare it to the A7, CLS550 etc. What you will see is no comparison as the Gran Coupe is better in every facet. You preach accuracy, yet none of your comments are truly accurate aside from the weight. Last time I checked BMW is still the #1 luxury car manufacturer in the world.

Exactly my point - - - BMW is the #1 luxury manufacture in the world - - - and not longer the maker of pure sports cars, the original 'ultimate driving machine'. I'm not sure where I lack accuracy, some of what I said are opinions and have nothing to do with accuracy.
BMW 3-series sales are down 20.2% 2013YTD.

Seems you have tunnel vision, and give a generalization about the whole brand based on a few select reviews of one car..the M5.

People seem to forget the recent 1M, M3, and the new M135i all are, and have received overwhelmingly positive reviews. The 650i beat the S7 in Motortrend for driving better.

This new M4 looks to be another great car. Plus BMWM6 gave a fairly logical explanation about US 3 series sales numbers, and actually 3 series global sales are at record levels.
