Did Land Rover Range Rover MESS UP The All-New SPORT?

Did Land Rover Range Rover MESS UP The All-New SPORT?
So, finally the covers have been removed from Land Rover Range Rover's all-new Sport. We've been keeping an eye on it as it went through its developmental period and we — more or less — saw this coming.

If you followed along with us, even though the vehicles had heavy camouflage wraps, it was clear that the front AND rear lights would be a little bit Evoque-inspired. Now though it's patently obvious that there is quite a bit of Evoque inspiration.

And there's only one REAL question we have to ask about that: WHY?

While we LOVE the Evoque's cutting-edge design and futuristic look, the thing that made the Range Rover Sport so lovable was it kept that traditional Range Rover look. This, frankly, seems to bring it down a notch from my perspective.

It just is missing that brutish charm the old product had.

That said, we're curious what the general consensus is out there...

Did Land Rover Range Rover MESS UP the all-new Sport? Is it too soft? If YOU could change anything, what would it be?

Overall it's still a good looking vehicle, but damn, that rear looks weak. First I was thinking it was just the trim/pkg. The exhaust tips look weird pointing down. If they were straight, the rear would look better, still weak, but better.

Agreed on the exhaust pipes pointing down — looks unfinished...

I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach. I'm one of the biggest fans of the current look of the Range Rover Sport, but i feel that this looks more like some type of "Grand Evoque" rather than the new Range Rover Sport. I know Land Rover wanted to take styling queues from the Evoque and spread them across the model lines, but I was hoping that new sport would take the same approach as the new flagship Range Rover and keep true to its shape and overall look. I'll hold my breath until the unveiling and wait for more pictures in lets say "a better color". Maybe then I can be won over.

It appeals to a certain market. When all is said and done, Jaguar Land Rover are a commercial organisation which has to turn a profit and continue to grow. If they had persisted in making vehicles which appeal to enthusiastic, but generally, second hand buyers, they would, by now, have gone the way of so many other British marques. I am no longer a "fan" of Land Rover, but I have immense respect for what they are doing and have achieved in the last few years.

Design looks good, with the exception of the tailpipe. Almost looks like an afterthought. Like the designers finished with the design and then the engineers came and said where does the tailpipe go? One thing though from recent pictures of the interior. It looks too much like the new Range Rover. A bad move for Land Rover. If so, Range Rover will lose sales to the Sport.

The only way LR will change the tail lights will be if this model has terrible sales; which won't happen. So we're stuck. And I hope the pictured exhaust tips are not for the supercharged V8.
