Volkswagen Shopping For Another Brand - Who Would Be Their Best Bet?
VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said that the automaker is open to further acquisitions.

“We are currently well positioned with 12 brands, but there are always opportunities that one cannot pass up,” Winterkorn said. “We have no further projects in the drawer, but we’re always wide awake to what’s happening in the world.”

In 2012, VW, Europe’s largest automaker, increased its stable of brands to 12, after it acquired Italian motorcycle maker Ducati though its Audi brand and completing a long-waited acquisition of sports-car producer Porsche. VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech also expressed his interest for Fiat’s Alfa Romeo although the Italian automaker reiterated that the brand is not for sale.

GM should be cheap if they keep up their lousy offerings.

It will be a Chinese car company. One to gain even more access and benefits, second to see how open the commies really are in trade. We Americans could try this but we're too stupid to think beyond chicken wings and if there's a football game this Sunday.

I am surprised at some of these comments. Lotus-waste of time. They already have Porsche. TVR again rediculous.Tesla-Porsche has the know how to develop a long range electric car if they chose to do it on their own. They are currently not interested at this point.Really the only brand that could offer them potential would be Alfa becasue of it's heritage and the availablility of utilizing the US and fareast world markets. They would simply replace Seat with Alfa and use their current new chassis technology. Unfortunately it would ruin what ever an Alfa Romeo was. If I were to do it I wuld use RWD Porsche technology from the upcoming baby Panamera and develop sedans, coupes, covertables off of that for Alfa. I would get Lamborghini tech for 4 and 6 cylinder engine combo.(I would not use an Audi powerplant!Anyway it's not going to happen, at least in the forseeable future.

Alfa. I envision they could grow the brand globally, as they did with Lamborghini, and take additional market share in sports car and sport sedan markets.

Vw's portfolio is distinctly European. Perhaps a foray into the Asian market would give them an established foothold in an area of growth, but also capitalize upon their acumen for building smaller efficient 21st century cars.
