Toyota Recalls 209,000 FJ Cruisers For Seatbelt Retractors That Fall Off
Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 209,000 FJ Cruiser SUVs because their front seatbelt retractors could fall off.

FJ Cruisers from the 2007 through 2013 model years are included in the recall.

Toyota said the driver and front passenger seatbelts are mounted on the vehicle's rear doors. If the doors are closed forcefully over a period of time, cracks can form in the door panel around the seatbelt retractor and the retractor can become detached.

Sorry, I just don't get it.... parts falling off a car isn't a quality issue "just" a safety issue.

If its a Toyota or Lexus its the suppliers fault. If its a different manufacturer than its NOT the suppliers fault. Case closed.

This keeps getting more interesting by the day. More recalls, more quality issues but Consumer Reports and JDP continue to rank them on the top? Those publications have no credibility indeed.

Wait, a piece of a car wears over time? Even moreso if you slam the item repeatedly? Shocked am I. This why recalls are a ridiculous judge of quality. It is a recall and thereby a safety issue simply because NHTSA chooses so, not because of the quality of the vehicle.

of course pieces wear over time. however... it's simply a bad design. It's funny how people get so upset when their favorite brand has a weakness. It's not the end of the world. TMC will live on just like the other major brands survive their recalls. Just hope they improve and no one is injured as a result of this issue. When it comes to the slamming as you mention below, I don't know about the rest of you but I can tell my wife and kids 1000 times to not slam the door but guess what?? They still do. Cars are meant to be used. A simple item like a seat belt retractor should hold up. Heck, it's part of a system that is supposed to restrain people in an accident so it should be able to hold up to decades of door slamming. Toyota put out a good vehicle with an inferior part. It isn't the first company to do so and it won't be the last. FYI... I'm not hating.. We've owned several Toyota's and we currently own a 4runner. They are typically are good products but their latest offerings aren't head and shoulders above other auto makers these days. Those days are long gone.

And just think, this vehicle has no real equal in terms of KBB hightest resale of all vehicles on the planet! Hey, maybe all the haters of TMC should take over TMC and start looking for more problems everyone else missed. However, that loyal customer and fan base aint goin nowhere!

It's a shame they can't recall it for ugliness.
