The surfaces of the 3 Series Coupe are deliberately designed to accelerate light. For example, the light coming from the hood is channelled to the shoulders and gathers speed on its way to the back.

Looking at the car body from the top, you actually see a waistline while with our competitors, it is shaped more like a barrel. From a distance this creates light impressions which make the car appear dynamic and thrilling. At the same time, this allows a powerful focus on the wheel arches leading the eye to the rear axle. As you know, rear wheel drive is the foundation for the excellent handling and performance properties of a BMW.

i am trying to like it but it is not a good looking car

Oh, the irony.

IamEvilHomer tells other people to use their eyes, yet cannot see the stunning design of this car.

From a design perspective, it is a much more sexy car than the one it replaces, with more fluid lines and cleaner surfaces.

How these elements together do not equal a good looking car in 'Homer's eyes is beyond me.

Hey, I'm not a BMW fanboy, but cannot see how people dislike this car so much. Obviously even most talented of young German designers can't sway the conservative and one-eyed American car-buying public.

No doubt the Europeans will warm to its elegance and aggressive stance, screw the aesthetically-challenged naysayers.

And this from someone who doesn't have the propeller emblem tattooed on their arm.

And with a complete lack of design appreciation, it is easy to understand my fustration at Will.

With the annoying way you think everything looks like something else, you should work in the patent office.

It's a good-looking car, but it doesn't excite me as much as the last generation coupes. Those were elegant and classy, yet at the same time conservative (understatement).

The new one just lacks something. I wouldn't mind having one, but it just lacks something in the design department. Doesn't get my heart pumping like the last generation.

Will

Did u type that when ur drunk, or ur too stupid to understand that this has nothing to do with ur ugly ES330 nor with the uglier C70. If ur jealous, just dont post stupid comments.

Will.

seriously man, these taillights were taken from the 7 series and has nothing to do with any Lexus. And the headlight of the volvo have a rectangular shape, while this is sharp. BTW the ES is a camry with the lexus badge isnt it?

Yes, I love my E39 530i! :)

Some of the newer BMW's ain't too bad. I love the 6-series and the Z4. The 3-series is ok. I can't stand the 5-series and 7-series design though.

The X5? I'm still waiting for it to either grow on me - or not.

Designers could have done a better job with the wheels (imo) on this and the 330i.

Pardon, the wheels on the 335i.

I actually like the wheels on this one. BavarianMotorrad only likes blingy bling wheels, like the Sprewell spinners he has on his hoompty.

In all seriousness, Will, nobody is copying the bland and lame design of the Lexus ES, get a clue. That car is a boat. Even if BMW were to copy another manufacturers design, it certainly wouldn't be Lexus, and certainly not the ES. If anything it's the other way around, how similar does the IS look to the new 3 series?

Back on subject, the car looks great and I think they did a perfect job with it.

I'm pretty sure the 3-series rear came from the 7-series rear.

nobody hates Lexus, but your hard on for them gets annoying quite frankly.

Quite frankly, I think Lexus is boring. A Toyota is a Toyota no matter what emblem you slap on it.

I don't think BMW is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I like cars from all manufacturers. If I don't like something BMW does, I admit it. I'm not a fan of the 6 series or the X3 for example, or even really the 7. For the price I'd rather have an Audi A8 or a CLS. Just stop defending them everytime somebody posts something negative about them. I give Lexus credit for a good first attempt at the sport sedan market, I think they did a great job. With that being said I still wouldn't buy one because I do prefer the BMW, not because it says BMW, but it really is more of a drivers car.

Oh well, to each their own, and nobody is looking at your crotch :)

Great pix! The back/titanium interior looks really good. Prefer the rims pictures on the 335 vs. the 328.

Agent 001 great job. I agree those are the best BMW 328 coupe photo gallery on earth!

BMW has a hit with this car and with the 335i, 760i, 550i, 650i, X5 and the Z4 coupe. Out of this group the Z4 coupe is Chris Bangles best work. The Z4 coupe has me smiling for ear to ear with it's stunning look.

this car was designed in germany right? where nobody has heard of a lexus es as we don't get it?
the rear lights are a classical bmw design, a lot like the 8 series'.
the front end featured on the sedan and that has been out for a while now, as in before c70.

CommonSense.....

Go see the car in person and see if you have the same opinion. The E46 currently has no problem competing with the G35 in sales or performance. I see four times has many E46 on the road than G35. So I'm not sure what you are thinking when you say the 335i can't compete with the G35. In the next shoot out the 335i will wipe the floor with the G35 and in the process pick up the engine of the year award.

Everyone has their own opionion about any car design, that's what they're for, and we're all intitled to it. As for any car company I have respect for them all(even Audi and M-B)and to be honest all of this bickering is really childish.
