Next Gen Porsche 911 GT3 To Be Automatic Only
From the "things that aren't really all that shocking" department, Porsche has confirmed that the RS variant of the new 911 GT3 will not have a manual gearbox. Sure hope you kids like paddles.

Andreas Preuninger, Porsche's well spoken head of GT development, has said that the next 911 GT3 RS will be differentiated even further from the GT3 than past generations, but that does not include three pedals for your driving enjoyment.

Too bad. It's not about being the fastest on the track, for P enthusiasts, it's about involvement and having fun - 3 pedals is still more fun even if your times are a whopping 1.5 seconds slower around the track. I understand the reasoning behind professional teams wanting the fastest technology but for non racers who just want to have fun with their car, stick shift is way more "fun".

This has to be the dumbest comment i have seen from yet another person who knows nothing about porsche models.

The GT3RS is for people who track cars and care most about lap times. its a very stripped down car for save weight for better handling as well. if you want to drive for pure pleasure and don't care about lap times, get the Porshe 911 turbo with manual for about the same price. it will have more luxury and will be faster in a straight line as well.

So pretty much like quizz said, not everyone is out for the fastest transmission shifts possible. I am happy doing the work myself and having fun while driving.

If you think your're a great driver because you can row gears, you should not be in a GT3-RS.

Driving at this level is about having the ability to adjust a dozen parameters of your technique in a corner as the rain starts to hit the track.

Who said anything about being a "great driver"?? I'm not talking about mastering race car techniques or adjusting to a dozen parameters on the track - that's the pursuit of perfection that the DPK is there to fulfill.

I'm talking about about "having FUN" driving the car. I don't pretend to be a race car driver, but there's just something gratifying and rewarding driving around town and playing with the clutch, enjoying a perfectly timed heel-toe shift. These are small pleasures lost with the PDK.

I'm sure at some point I will get a PDK P-car, but for now, I still enjoy my MT 987 CS. Even when I do, I will always have an MT in the garage.
