When YOU'RE Buying A Vehicle Do YOU Take Into Consideration Your Pet's Safety? Top 10 Pet Safe Picks Here
I am the perfect person to write about pets and cars. Actually, no, I am not. I have never had a pet; however, I am very familiar with pet-friendly folks as family members and my significant other have several.

To me it's clear that once you take on owning a pet, it's very much like having another kid. You adore them and make sure they're taken care to the best of your capability. Of course this applies to how they're fed and their health care. So, why not make sure your pet is taken care of in a vehicle?

Edmunds.com recently released its picks of the Top 10 pet safe vehicles.

That said, do YOU consider your pet's safety when purchasing a new vehicle?

The top ten pet safe vehicles chosen by Edmunds.com are:

  1. Dodge Journey – Available features include an in-dash cooler that can be used to store beverages, medicine or pet food.
  2. Ford Flex – The crossover offers ample legroom and wide door openings for your pet’s easy ingress and egress.
  3. GMC Acadia – The Acadia’s tri-zone climate control helps monitor temperature in the rear of the vehicle, thus ensuring that pets secured in back aren’t exposed to extreme heat.
  4. Hyundai Tucson – This Hyundai offers privacy glass that helps block the strong rays of the sun.
  5. Jeep Liberty – The Jeep brand offers specialized pet travel gear, including crates, carriers and a ramp.
  6. Kia Soul – The Soul comes standard with side-curtain airbags that can keep both two-legged and four-legged passengers safe in the event of a collision.
  7. Mazda 5 – The Mazda 5 has tethers and anchors in both the second and third rows, helpful since pet safety seats need to be secured in the same way as a child’s seat.
  8. Mitsubishi Outlander – The SUV also boasts fold-flat seating and stowable third-row seats – both of which increase the amount of room available for larger pets.
  9. Subaru Tribeca – Pet owners will appreciate the Tribeca’s five-star crash test scores, steering-wheel-mounted auxiliary controls and rear back-up camera.
  10. Volvo XC70 – The XC70 is available with a Volvo-designed pet barrier, created to remain intact during a collision.

Well I know Mitt Romney preferred to use a Caprice wagon for pet transport.

@ sportylexhaha

Do you feel the same way about all of the previous POTUS that had dogs while in office, including the Republican ones?

Never crosses my mind. My dog is never in the car unless we are going to the vet. And that's only about a mile. Plus, he's small enough that size and space are no issue.

Hmm, had no clue there was a difference when it came to pet safety. I just figured that Fido or Mr. Fuzzy would have a hard time telling the difference. In a roll over, assume hitting the glass, ceiling, floorboard, or plastic would all feel about the same no matter the make/model. Same would apply for collision. Joking aside, pets should be in carriers and said carrier should be restrained to help minimize injury to your pets and other passengers. A flying 10-90 lb animal is dangerous. I see idiots all the time driving around with the little peanut butter dogs running all over them. It's dangerous to you and others. Maybe we need to start letting Darwin's theory run its course. Would probably make the roads safer than any safety device could.

Wow, privacy glass counts as a feature that determines if a car is pet friendly . . . ?

I can't wait for Edmunds to do an article about if Happy Days was being produced today, what brand of motorcycle would "the Fonz" use to jump the shark?
