NEW YORK AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: IF Buick Made THIS Car, Would It Have Been The Vehicle That Led A Revolution?
As I look through the New York Auto Show preview photo gallery, one vehicle stands out to me. It's the Buick Riviera coupe that came out from hiding at the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show.

Looking at it and dissecting its design, it's clear to see that the design language made it to production in form of the LaCrosse, which will be making its own debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show. BUT the bigger issue here is why didn't General Motors actually build it?

I am sure it could have used that Opel chassis and thrown a body on top of it and slid it out the door. AND there's no doubt that would have brought in younger buyers to the brand.

While there's no question it's a Buick from the facade, check out its side profile, which evokes a bit of a Bentley Continental GT vibe with its greenhouse and that bulging rear fender.

Much like the Lincoln Continental retro throwback that wasn't built — that would have KILLED the Chrysler 300 — it seems like this Riviera concept would have been a WIN had the brand taken the chance.

Let's face it: THIS Buick is better looking than the current-generation Cadillac CTS coupe, right?

Yes that's a beautiful car. Nearly all automakers have the wrong people actually pushing for what models get built, I think. Concepts look good, then what you see on the road is trash. Almost all the time.

The idea of a Buick coupish like car is a good idea, but not like that. The gull wing doors would never go to production. The interior needs a better color, and front end needs better styling. Looks too much like a silver batmobile.

Obviously some elements are raw concept and it would get watered down but even a diluted version would help.

this car should be released 99% looking like this concept. i think thats what it would take to bring a younger crowd to the brand, start changing things around and it becomes a classy buick.. ( the gull wing doors can be left out )
