It had dominated this segment in Europe for numerous years but in 2012, it only ranked at sixth. The fourth-generation RAV4 is larger since compact SUV buyers currently

Hideous! It looks like an early 2000 Sienna minivan and a Yaris had a baby. The CR-V, equally BLAH Escape and the Hyundai/Kia twins are going to eat this thing alive.

Brother you are sad, defending a RAV4. You must live here in China, believing all the propaganda and not being able to think outside the box.

It is definitely an improvement over the current one. It will sell well IMO, though the rear design is certainly polarizing. Overall a nice choice against the Korean.

The upswept rear quarter-window design should be banned on any further new SUVs/CUVs/Crossovers.

It is a fine automobile, but it is not yet ready to dethrone the CR-V.

..Trust me -ParadoX, the 2 have gone back and forth, but ultimately the Rav was out of the starting blocks first and as long as Toyota sees fit to keep it alive it continue to be the small suv all others are compared to and that includes the ugly duckling cr-v. However this does not speak of the build quality of the Honda which in my opinion is second only to Toyota....up to a certain point. Now to address -USNA1999. Sad you say? Not a chance when it comes to my thorough understanding of the Toyota Corp at large. Kudos to the Toyota Rav4 having still a great following and consistant build quality and it's useful purpose. It's not trying to be something it was not intended to be. I would never even to pretend to be on the same thinking and expertise level with the top decision makers such as Toyota's Cheif Akio Toyoda, his VP's, Mngrs, Designers, Engineers and Marketing Excs. You, on the other hand seem to undermind and miss the point Toyota has addressed with this new variant. That being, it's wider, longer and lower further defying center of gravity and has significantly increased it's cubic size and it looks sleeker more appealing to the eyes. Kudos to Toyota who once again have proven listening to the desires and inputs of their loyal and new customer base helps in their final decisions.

Actually, Toyota saw the wild success of the CR-V in Japan, copied it and then brought it to the American market first.

You took a test drive in one and your comment is from what perspective? I doubt you are a genuine repeat cust. Just think if our Country could somehow put the loyal party corruption aside and severely do some real Cost cutting to end up deficit reduction. Why argue with Toyota's success, they are one of the best examples these days displaying their keen money sense to keep money matters under great control. Again, a friggin Toyota RAV-4 is a product of greatness -ZOOMY!!!

Wether you like it or not....the entire vehicle is an improvement over the last gen that sold great. The interior much better than the old one, even if you still don't like it: lots of people do.

If Toyota really wants to lure me back, then start offering manual transmissions again. It was one of the few features that provided a modicum of sportiness in otherwise corporate bland offerings.
