NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: FIRST Real Life Shots Of The 2015 Audi A3, Detailed INSIDE and OUT!
The press debut of the 2015 Audi A3 sedan on the eve of the 2013 New York Auto Show was something to behold. Said to be boasting proportions similar to the first-generation Audi A4, it seems like Audi may be onto something.

As cars have gotten bigger, more technologically laden — and thereby more expensive — it's clear that many former luxury buyers either couldn't keep up with the rising prices or simply wanted to go a more subtle route. With the debut of the all-new Audi A3 sedan, it seems to me that the four rings is looking to make some moves in a very aggressive space.

When comparing the standard A3 to the BMW 1-Series it's a complete homerun. The A3 is like a well tailored suit whereas the all-new 1-Series appears ungainly.

Now the Mercedes-Benz A-Class looks as though its trying too hard while the recently unveiled A3 sedan appears to run right down the middle. Not too boisterous nor too "edgy," a.k.a. ugly.

Agent00R is 100% correct, the Audi A3 and S3 sedans will be a complete sales HOMERUN.

Not only do the A3 sedans look better than the BMW 1-series and Mercedes-Benz A/CLA competition, but they give buyers the ability to spec out their cars to pretty much A8 levels of luxury with everything from 4G/LTE, WiFi Hotspots, Audi Drive Select and the latest MMI navigation suite.

The interiors are clearly much higher quality than the BMW 1-series and Mercedes-Benz A/CLA. The performance is more than adequate with diesel and high-performance options also available.

In summary: Audi offers the best looking car in its class with the highest quality interiors and very competitive performance at a sure-to-be bargain price when compared to the competition. You can't lose with that strategy.

Meh. Disappointing. Looks like a toy, doesn't look like luxury. Sorry to say (since I am an Audi owner), the CLA wins this one, at least in pics. The CLA's interior and exterior are more appealing to me as are its performance specs, especially in AMG form. I will concede that the Audi's interior LOOKS nice, but, based on my experiences that I've outlined here before, with Audi, looks are deceiving.

CLA????

Seriously????

I guess Mini-Me needs a car too. The CLA is waaaaaay too small IMO to be a 4dr coupe. But to each his own.

If I'm going to buy a "baby sedan", (which I'm not) I would just get the Jetta and save thousands. Better yet the CC.

I'm not going to comment about the fact that audi's model naming makes NO sense anymore, they really are trying to fill so many gaps that they are running out of numbers and letters...

Besides that, this is a good looking car, inside and out. I just don't see how they are going to differentiate the next A4 from this and the A6.

Audi says they will be making more of an effort to be more creative and less bland with their styling but every new model launch, which happens about once a week now, shows the same old tired trend.

That's great for the buyers of this model because people will mistake their car for more expensive models but for the people forking out luxury class money on an A6 and even an A4 it's disappointing.

I can see it now: Ashton gets promoted from secretary to personal assiststant and picks herself up a new a3 and everywhere she goes she hears, "how do you like your new jetta?"

what's wrong with the Jetta?

A few disappointments, Doesn't go on sale till first quarter 2014. Diesel is fwd only like the Jetta, and no manual!! Also I assume if you add 3 inches you are essentially looking at the next gen A4, and I'm guessing that wont have a manual either? Fail. Badge whores can take this, but the all too similar Jetta is a better deal, plus it has a manual trans.

Have designers forgotten how to integrate screens into the dash? What's with these screens that pop up? I don't care for it one bit. I want the screen to be integrated into the dash, not look like some afterthought.

I like the pop-up and hate those LONG Screen like in the E-Class. The WHOLE front then is one big LONG DASH with these quirky levels. Looks very nice.

@gkearns56

I am with you on this. There's nothing worse than those LONG-ass dashes that look straight from the 1980s. Ugh.

Unfortunately, it looks like the next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class will have that LONGGGGGGG dash with the two laptop screens...

For second I thought we might see something new, but its just more of the same VW sourced engines, and transmissions with the same styling we have seen on every Audi. Also no 8 speed auto is a bit of a supprised, and it's shorter than a Jetta, I guess the premium is for softer plastics on the interior.

I am encouraged by this new class, BMW '2', MB 'A', etc. The size and weight just makes more sense for a true sporting car. But I agree that the Jetta makes even more sense.
As far as style, manufacturers are stuck on making all their offerings resemble the "brand family" look. Usually too predictable and boring.

The exterior does look clean, classy. It is small and I see the Jetta somewhat in the design. The dash is not very luxurious, even if well made. As for the navi pop-up unit, I also prefer in dash, but some don't like the do all screen so it may be better this way where you still have your radio and a/c separate. I do however like this setup for the navi much better than the M-B A Class because the A Class does look like an aftermarket attached right on the dashboard. Why not just buy an after market unit then for $150? At least the Audi's is hidden away when not in use.

Audi's more aggressive design strategy and model differentiation will start with the next-generation A4, which is due in 2015.

It can't come soon enough. To me... it's starting to get stale. See a lot of audi's in denver and where they used to stand out, it's gone the way of the mid 90's accord where there is one at every stop light.

I'm wanting to buy an awd sedan but not too impressed with any of the new offerings. The CTS yesterday is the first one that has caught my eye but I want to see it in person first and see some numbers to go with the claims. Interested to see what MB brings to the table next.

Just in time for obama's additional $1.50 a gallon sulfur gas tax.

Filling up at over $5 a gallon is going to be very painful. But then, we have socialist President Pinocchio to thank for the pain.
