Study Shows Smartphone Integration More Important Than Price Or Size Of Vehicle
A recent study shows that when it comes to buying expensive cars customers are less interested about the price and size and more about whether they can sync their smartphones.

Jim Farley, Ford’s Lincoln executive vice president, said before the New York International Auto Show, that automakers should be very attentive at the rapid changes that appear in the US car-buying and their effect on the consumers’ behavior. Convincing a customer to switch brands may become a difficult task due to the problem of making phones work with different companies’ technology.

If it doesn't integrate into my iPhone, it isn't considered.

Executive ego wouldn't allow this, but I think the best solution would be if they would standardize on a "hole" in the dashboard that would fit tablets. It would be like the DIN standard for car stereos. Compatible and future-proof.

The whole Smartphone integration thing is just a temporary intermediate step in the process. This will all be a moot point fairly soon. Built-in cellular and Internet (perhaps using a satellite link) is just around the corner. Vehicles will no longer need to use a Smartphone as a connector.
