Proposed EPA Rules Will Raise Gas Prices Even Further

The Environmental Protection Agency proposed new rules today that will require lower-sulfur fuels to help reduce smog-causing emissions from cars and trucks beginning in 2017.

The long-awaited rule would increase the price of gas by a penny a gallon or up to 9 cents, depending on whether analyses cited by EPA and environmental groups or the oil industry are to be believed.

The proposal also requires vehicles to meet tighter emissions standards at a cost of about $130 a vehicle in 2025. Once fully implemented, EPA says the standards will help avoid up to 2,400 premature deaths per year and prevent 23,000 cases of respiratory ailments in children.

You're absolutely right, zoomy. Obama's Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, has spoken openly of his plan to increase US gas prices to European levels to price people out of cars and force everyone into public transportation. Of course, Obama himself said that under his plan energy costs would "skyrocket". Of course, Obama's army of low information voters don't have any idea of their plans, nor do they care so long as they're getting their free stuff.

Seems to me the eight years under Mr. Bush saw the steepest rise in gas prices. Under Clinton, I paid about $1.23 per 9/10 gallon. Under Bush, gas prices topped out just $4.80 per 9/10 gallon.

I remember that secret meeting between VP Cheney and the large oil companies soon after he took office.

Seems reasonable to keep sulfur out of the air. Living in a city with lots of traffic is horrible on your lungs.

- Yep. Very true. Not sure why you were deboosted. Guess they don't like facts. It gets in the way of the BS that gets spewed here from time to time. Funny how folks like MBCLS07 chose to ignore stuff like that. And blame everything on Obama. Pathetic.
