NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is The Acura MDX Going Down The SAME Road As The RLX? Make The Call — Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN?

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is The Acura MDX Going Down The SAME Road As The RLX? Make The Call — Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN?
Here we go again. At the 2013 New York Auto Show Acura revealed the all-new 2014 MDX luxury sport-utility vehicle and the pattern was the same as many other Acura launches.

There will be two drivetrains offered: All-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. Power will come from a V6 producing nearly 300 horsepower. There are a lot of LEDs embedded in the front headlights. Acura has worked to soften the beak's impact. It too features the dual-screen center stack a la the Honda Accord and all-new RLX.

The big improvements can be seen in its weight loss of around 275 pounds over the previous-gen vehicle. In addition it's wheelbase has grown, which is good news for interior space.

When it comes to driving the MDX, it's a game of alphabet soup. There's so many abbreviations for the amount of technology stuffed into this vehicle. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing. Technology can be great, if it's applied in an impactful way. Not tech for tech sake.

That said, we want you to take this entire package into consideration. Then, let us know: What does the all-new MDX get from you? A thumbs UP or a thumbs DOWN?

why Acura is doing that to all their headlights is beyond me. They look totally aftermarket, like something out of a JC Whitney catalog.

I have never been a fan of this SUV, CUV, cross-over class and none of these cars have been able to convince me to change my mind. The only possible exceptions, ie envision seeing myself driving, would be the MB GLK or the VW Tiguan. And the reasons for those two would be their diminutive size, diesel fuel economy, which lends them a sense of practicality. This Acura is not one of those I'm afraid. But I will say this and that is their new treatment of the beak is much better than the previous generation.

Don't see the new MDX being as disconnected to the segment as the RLX. While not my favorite, I think the packaging and value will still attract customers just as he previous generations have.

I am leaning towards what you're saying here...

I think it is well connected to the segment. It is a practical SUV designed as a daily driver. It can haul kids, has a good size trunk, nice interior, etc. They are going in the right direction with it.

The current generation sells better than the X5, and M-Class. So I think the formula Acura has is the right one.

The dash/interior reminds me of alien ship from movie "Independence Day." The scene where Will Smith is trying to figure out the controls.

I have found Acura interiors to be quite confusing at first...

Takes a bit of getting used to...

This SUV will do very well. Its exterior design is in the middle of the target for the segment while not setting any new trend. The previous MDX was known as a dynamic driver, and this new one apparently circles the track 8 seconds quicker, so it should be a blast to drive while being more comfortable and quiet.

The X5 is still KING! Bow down!

ive always liked the MDX and this car hasn't changed much in regards to style so ill give it a thumbs up, but i do wish it was a more dramatic redesign.

Overall the car look good but that front headlights really annoy me or bug my eyes.

Are the Acura designers on drugs or what? Are they living in the moment or do they think it is still 1990??? Why don't they hire the designer that Kia uses. That would be an improvement for their Hondaesque looking cars.
