I think the US Big3 has never stopped thinking about the mid-size pickup truck. Just as the market has increased for smaller cars & SUVs, some of that has pushed down to the trucks as well. Yes, the large guys still sell fairly well, but the industry is realizing that consumers are getting by with smaller vehicles, do smaller jobs more often than doing major large jobs.

And if a good mid-size pickup can be stuffed with all the same content as the full-sizers, you got a pretty good business case for re-vitalizing that market again.
