STUD or DUD: Does The Honda Accord Hybrid Face Treatment Make "The Beak" Look Good?

STUD or DUD: Does The Honda Accord Hybrid Face Treatment Make
While making my way around the 2013 New York Auto Show, I knew there were two booths I was destined to stop by. Acura and Honda.

Though everyone seems to think I hate the brand(s), I don't. I can't stress that enough. BUT when you see management making one wrong move after another, you have to say something. Oh, and when the BIG announcement is a vacuum hook-up, you really just have to put your head in your hands.

You know, I know some of you won't believe me but I actually really dig the updated Honda Accord sedan. To me, it seems to evoke a look that's far more luxury than the reality of its mid-size sedan territory. Its interior has a similar dual-screen setup that plagues Acura dealers trying to pitch the all-new RLX and I dig the new LEDs the Accord boasts. If you've seen one on the road at twilight with the LEDs going, you know it makes a statement on the road.

Now at the New York show though, front and center was the all-new Accord plug-in hybrid. Well, Honda has to have something to go toe-to-toe with the Ford Fusion plug-in, right? In order to differentiate the plug-in from the standard car though it had to make some adjustments. New wheels, a tacky "hybrid" badge on the plug-in door, and an all-new facial treatment.

But WOW that is one...interesting...looking design, huh?

I'll stop there. That's because I want YOU to weigh in: Is the new Honda Accord's face treatment BETTER or WORSE than the world famous Acura "Beak?"

You know, I actually REALLY like the wheels...

I love this vehicle's side profile/wheels and in this color the lines look right.

I have to agree with 00R, those rims are excellent. I think the front of the car looks good too.

Why do all these hybrids have ugly wheels???

Unlike F1, car manufacturers are allowed to use wheel rims as "dynamic" aerodynamic devices.

Front looks much better. Wheels kinda have that generic look though...

Is it written in stone that manufacturers make hybrid versions of cars ugly. Not just this Accord. Camry, Sonata....

Anything would have to be better than the beak. So this one qualifies as better. But, I can't think of a more hokey play to put the fuel filler door. Yes, create that illusion of a sleek racing car and immediately pop the bubble reminding everyone it's powered by the Energizer Bunny. Honda designers continuing the legacy of being idiots.

Definitely better, not only compared to its petrol brother but when compared with other family sedans as well. Front, side, rear 3/4 views are all much better, rear is only slightly better. But I agree with some of the sentiments here about the wheels, looks like something from the back pages of auto magazines.

I am soo disappointed at Honda. They certainly achieved their goal of becoming the ugliest and most boring, tasteless and bland car brand in the whole world. I will say it again: If Honda/Acura don't fire their whole design team and hire some people with taste (Italian, German) there will be no hope for them in the future. (Or maybe there will, judging by the bad taste most people have.
