Audi Records Best First Quarter In Company's History
Audi reported its best first quarter in the company’s history, with 369,500 units sold, up 6.8%.

“Building on the first quarter’s record deliveries, we want to continue this positive sales trend over the next months, too”, says Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG.

In March the automaker sold 147,000 units, an increase of 3% compared with the same month last year. The vehicles which contributed to this record were the SUV models, the A4 family and the A1 Sportback.
Global sales of the SUV Q3 increased 58.2% to 28,550 units and the Q5 increased 15.6% to 56,350 units. Audi managed to achieve growth in the troubled European market, up 0.7% to 187,600 units for the first quarter.

Audi's global sales results for the first quarter of 2013 are extremely impressive.

For comparison:

Mercedes-Benz only sold 324,898 vehicles globally during the same time period for an increase of 3.5% versus its 2012 Q1 figures. Audi managed to increase its Q1 2013 global sales to 369,500 units a rise of 6.8%.

Mercedes and BMW both outpaced Audi in march global sales, and BMW had larger first quarter gains than Audi.

Yes, BMW might have increased its Q1 2013 global sales .2% more than Audi (7.0% for BMW vs. 6.8% for Audi) but BMW also sells many more models than Audi does both globally and in the U.S. market. In the U.S. market, Audi doesn't sell its Q3 compact SUV, which would the BMW X1 competitor, nor does it sell its A3 sedan yet, which would be the 1-series sedan competitor.

The only cars Audi does not have a direct rival to bmw with are the x6, and 5gt, which are both high priced and low volume. You forgot to mention Audi sells the A1 which is priced considerably lower than anything with a BMW badge on it, and it actually costs less than a Mini Cooper, and the A1 accounted for over 120,000 units last year...going down market always equals easy volume. If Audi didn't have the a1 the would be almost tied with Mercedes, once Mercedes offers an a1 competitor Audi may find itself back in 3rd.

No, M5twinturbo, Audi does not offer a competitor to the BMW X1, 1-series sedan, 5 GT, X6, or 6-series Coupe. In case you are confused, the competing models look like this:

BMW 1-series sedan = No Audi Competitor yet
BMW 3-series = A4
BMW 5-series = A6
BMW 6-series Coupe = No Audi Competitor
BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe = Audi A7
BMW 7-series = A8
X1 = No Audi Competitor
BMW X3 = Q5
BMW X5 = Q7
BMW X6 = No Audi Competitor
BMW 5GT = No Audi Competitor
BMW Z4 = Audi TT

That makes 5 BMW model lines for which Audi has no direct competition. 2 of the model lines (X1 and 1-series sedan) are very high-volume models. 3 model lines (5-Series GT, 6-Series Coupe, and X6) are lower-volume, but when the sales figures are combined, still accounts for a lot of units.

@Firewombat - It's not necessary to bring out the cussing even though your using your childish symbols. If you can't add any comments regarding the article then nobody needs your stupid remarks. Maybe GermanNut is just passionate about Audi and maybe you like your tuner cars. Grow-up; You obviously don't own one or can't afford one since your always bashing them I've owned both BMWs and Audis; have an new Audi A6 now. I especially like my Audi. If you have driven either you wouldn't get your feeble mind wrap around why BOTH cars are extra ordinary compared to American or Japanese ride.
