Japanese Automakers Recall 3.4 Million Vehicles For Air Bags That Catch Fire
Four Japanese automakers including Toyota Motor Corp, and Nissan Motor Co are recalling 3.4 million vehicles sold around the world because airbags supplied by Takata Corp are at risk of catching fire or injuring passengers.

The move announced on Thursday is the largest recall ever for airbags made by Takata, the world's second largest supplier of airbags and seatbelts. Shares of Takata tumbled almost 10 percent in Tokyo trading.

The recall is the largest since Toyota pulled back more than 7 million vehicles in October. The scale of the recent safety actions underscore the risk of huge global supply chain problems as automakers increasingly rely on a handful of suppliers for common or similar parts to cut costs, analysts have said.

Remember - recalls don't count as quality or defects. They are "special"

So a recall for a "defective" airbag that catches fire isn't technically a defect. Go figure

I sense some sarcasm!

Perceived quality and Absolute quality mean very different things....

A defect is a defect, recall or coverup or silent service campaign...they all have an impact on quality.

No wonder Consumer Reports, JDP and all those publications have NO credibility. They continue to ignore all these recalls which are massive, involve safety and more trips to the shop.

If you guys actually read the article GM and BMW were on this recall list as well. Didn't GM and BMW has some recall lately as well? I mean no brand is perfect but at least try to mention all the brands that's being recall.

The thing is 009, you know the truth about what I am about to say, but you won't accept it because it flies in the face of your never ending quest for hits and Toyota attacks.

But here goes.....

Recalls are NOT the same as quality. Recalls may affect 3 million cars, but usually it's because 5 or 10 or 20 customers had a problem. 99% of the vehicles recalled have never and will never get the problem in many of those cases, even if they never go into the shop. But NHTSA demands all cars with the part be recalled. So those other 99% of customers didn't have a negative experience to report to JDP or CR. And the next buyers of those cars will be thrilled with cars that never had the problem, but were still fixed.

Now compare that to...say... MyFord Touch, which breaks for, um, everybody. But NHTSA will never issue a recall for it, because technically it is not a safety issue. That will get reported to JDP and CR, and quality ratings will suffer.

Class dismissed.

So if all these car brands decide to treat all their "quality" issues as a recall then they will all be on top of the CR and JDP ratings? What a joke. When I buy a car I am looking at limiting the trips to the dealer regardless of what they are for (for me this is a negative experience).

BTW this is the classic case of pay me now or pay me later. All these car manufacturers would rather fix the issues as a recall now in ALL cars before the rest of them actually fail and actually cause even a greater negative experience with them.

Wow, I think -USNA1999 absolutely has a problem with the understanding that Lexus and Toyota is a better made product than its European counterparts. A new kind of evil so to speak.

What part of the word Takata Corp. Hint: "the parts supplier" dont USNA1999 get? I absolutely think you should get rid of that so called LS460 you said you drive, because you would be the first hater of Japanese cars to actually confess to continue driving one yet finding fault at every turn. Wow, you are a very confussing mix.
