CAR WARS! 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel vs. Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI

If there's one vehicle we've been pretty damn smitten by, it's the Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I had the chance to drive one of the new ones when it first debuted way back then it was very clear it was a BIG step for Chrysler Group.

So now that Jeep has taken its already great product one step further with a revision for the 2014 model year — and a new diesel powertrain — it will be nice to see how it does against the competition.

To be more specific, the Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI.

I have to admit I am somewhat bias since I used to own a first-gen Touareg, but to be straightforward, the second-gen car isn't nearly as good as the first.

I think this will be a pretty good comparison for a couple of reasons: 1) It's a pretty apples-to-apples competition, 2) both are good vehicles, 3) they both are luxurious, yet can be taken on the trails.

Let's see who winds up on top.

My wife has a V8 TOUAREG and she loves it, it has been a great vehicle but in the 4 years we have owned that thing has never seen any mud or hauled anything heavier than her tennis bag and rackets. Her friend owns a Grand Cherokee Limited and she also loves it and finally my buddy owns this new TOUAREG diesel and he swears up and down that it's the best vehicle he has ever owned (prior cars that I know off that he has owned are an Acura TL and MDX which he traded for the TOUAREG). I would pick the VW but I am being a little biased but why are these SUVs so expensive?

Love that jeep now offer diesel. Also Good to see jeep still has the hardware to be a serious off roader.
