RUMOR: Audi Design To Undergo A MASSIVE Shake Up?

RUMOR: Audi Design To Undergo A MASSIVE Shake Up?
Word on the street is that Audi will be undergoing a new design direction. According to some insiders that are in the loop, the whole "same sausage, different size" concept is over.

Well, I wonder how this will go down. I mean, if you look back Audi's of the 1990s and 2000s have been following that template. And now that the brand's made a huge comeback and continues to grow market share, is this the wisest move?

Not to mention the cars do look...damn good.

This appears to be just the start of the change, so keep an eye out for concepts in the next 12 months, perhaps longer, that will reflect this new direction — if it is, in fact, true.

...Triggered by Egger, as well as R&D chief Wolfgang Dürheimer, the company’s award-winning design strategy is under review. Audi has recently come under considerable, perhaps exaggerated, criticism for the visual similarities between its different model lines. When speaking with Egger at the New York auto show, he assured Car and Driver that the time of “scalable design” is over...

Their cars look very modern, but still have mayor issues and are tough to repair. Ask any Audi tech.

The fact is that consumers have been choosing performance and style over reliability. BTW I am taking in my LS tomorrow Monday to replace the alternator, fourth time in the shop after close to 5 years of ownership.
AUDI is making some really nice cars, my wife keeps mentioning the A/S-5 convertible but I am not 100% sold.

Good point -knowitall1985, I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you could only trade Euro performance for genuine build quality, you'd end up with a Lexus. Sure, I admire Audi's, Bimmers, Merc'd etc. But the fact remains.

This is definitely a good strategy for Audi. You can maintain a corporate look without having every model look extremely similar to every other model to the point where if it weren't for the length and different LED headlight patterns, the models would be nearly indistinguishable.

I think the Audi A8 will most benefit from this design strategy. Buyers of the flagship Audi model will now have a truly unique looking vehicle that won't be mistaken for an A6L.

Overall a very good looking car, I personally do not like circular air vents(IMHO they make cars look cheap, like the Brazilian VW GOL). But it will certainly sell very well. It will run against the 2 Series BMW, witch is the car I'm crazy about and can't whait to see and drive!
