Well, if these first spy shots are anything to base the next-gen product on, it's not looking too good.

If you take a good, hard look it's clear that the roofline is lifted from the standard production-going version. Did I really have hopes that Subaru was going to go on a limb and produce something just as sexy as what we saw in New York?

No. But hot damn it would have been cool. What a tease! I would have went out and put a deposit down. Something tells me I am not alone with that sentiment.

That said, it's not a total loss. Though the development car is completely wrapped up, it's pretty clear that the concept's grille and headlights will live on.

Unfortunately, the massive spoiler will also make an appearance. Womp, womp.

The spy shots do make me sad. If the powers that be were to let the concept car make it into production, there might have been another Wrx in the driveway.

I still have hope that the concept was not just a tester for the front and rear fascias, but I may have to wait another generation to see it in the showroom.
