Hyundai Pickup Truck Rendering

Hyundai Pickup Truck Rendering
Based on growing rumors of a Hyundai pickup truck, we dive head-first into evaluating the market for the new pickup as well as commissioned renderings of what this truck might look like.

The short story:

- The new truck will be based on the LWB Santa Fe, and using that vehicle's existing powertrain, the new truck will be competitive with the Tacoma and Frontier (at least based on their current offering)

- Hyundai can likely sell this vehicle worldwide, so it will be built in Korea...this is a key point as far as timing is concerned, as the "chicken tax" (a tariff on imported pickups) expires in 2018

- Hyundai isn't likely to try and build a truck for everyone - they're going to try and steal sales from 4-door trucks purchased for occasional hauling and towing.

If worldwide sales hit 40k units a year, our friends in the industry tell us Hyundai will have a winner...especially if they use a lot of the same parts in the new truck (which we've dubbed the "Santa Cruz") that they use in the Santa Fe.

Even Honda had trouble putting a dent in this segment.

Honda had trouble because the Ridgeline was freakin too expensive for the segment while not having the capabilities of the vehicles that were competitive on price.

If it is anything like my friend's Sonata, stay away. The inside rattles like no other and he has had repeat issues that the dealer knows as common and the web is full of complaints, yet no recall. There is a reason why the price is lower than the competition.

Looks nice. I don't know how reliable it will be...

Tacoma and Frontier have a real truck chassis, not a spaghetti car structure.

Render looks good though, but it is stolen off of Ford.

Cheap will be the clincher though, I'm sure it'll be atleast 4 or 5K cheaper.

it does not look good. Car front with a truck bed just like that stupid elcamino not a truck.

Front end is hideous. Not only does it look plain ugly, it doesn't even look truck-like.

Looks like the Ranger Ford should have built.

Hyundai should actually build a small pickup like the old early 1990's Toyota Trucks and Mazda B2000 and price it like a Hyundai Accent . They would sell like crazy . The small truck market has gone away to overprice mid sized trucks that cost as much as a full size truck . I see those old Toyota Trucks all over the place and if one is for sale here in Las Vegas , they want big money and people pay it .
