VW Turns Up The Heat With 60 New Or Refreshed Models By Year End
VW plans to offset the decline in Europe by introducing 60 new and refreshed models by the end of this year and expanding its dealership network in emerging markets.

VW plans to open 1,500 dealerships in emerging markets in the medium term, besides the existing 20,000 dealers around the world. VW has tries to offset the sales decline in Europe with gains in deliveries in Russia, China and the US. The German company also plans to surpass GM and Toyota by 2018 and take the first place as the largest automaker in the world. For the first quarter VW reported a sales gain of 5.1% to 2.27 million vehicles.

60 new models or refreshes in one year?

Then you look at Honda and Acura as they continue to milk stale designs with minimal updates.

There is a fundamental difference in approach there.

Up in Europe. Aside from the new(ish) accord, it's all the same stuff in the states. Stale is a complement.

Be careful with the so-called "new models" and "refreshes". As for "stale designs with minimal updates", not sure whether the Golfs have changed a whole lot and how about those distinctive Audi sedans? Don't get me wrong, I honestly believe Audi is so much better than Acura and the Hondas over the last 10 years are pathetic in terms of exterior design but I think 009 is getting carried away with these VW's "new models" and "refreshes".

Everyone doing the same: "The Japanese manufacturer, spurred by the success of the VW MQB platform, which underpins a wide range of vehicles, wants to follow suite. Their framework, called Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) features a customizable platform that can be used in a variety of models.
At first, the vehicles will only share 20 to 30 percent of parts, but in due time, Toyota is looking to push that closer to 70 to 80 percent. This way, the cost savings will be huge, and the ride and handling of the models will be consistent throughout the range, which is both good and bad, depending on your viewpoint on the matter."
Yes, it is great strategy that eventually all car makers will copy.

Of course when you have some 12 brands (including Cinese joint ventures), I guess that's a pretty small amount actually.
