New BMW X5 to get a hybrid version?

New BMW X5 to get a hybrid version?
The front cover of AutoCar seems to imply that...it would definitely make sense.

Good idea, for fad technology.

We really need a better way to get better gas mileage.

Hybrid sucks!!! And BMW said they won't do Hybrids but will invest in fuel cells. When I say hybrid sucks I mean that from a financial standpoint the cost to recoup the additional cost on average is around 6 years just to break even...and dont forget you should start replacing batteries at around 8 years. From an economical standpoint the 10 or so mpg your saving the environment doesnt even come close to the impact of producing 100's of lbs of batteries per car.My 2 cents.

BMW should put their hybrid resources into their diesel technology. Diesel technology has more value.

haha, good one huu76

Hybrids are stupid anyway and I hope BMW and Audi don't actually come out with them. There is no performance advantage to them. Diesels are much more worth investing in. Diesels give hybrid gas mileage with great performance, as shown in Audi's TDI line, and especially the R10 TDI race car. For German manufacturers, whose reputations lie in being meant to drive, hybrids should be considered something like a sin.

hybris diesel would be good, but heavy.
stick it in an suv, then everyone's happy.
petrol hybrid is rather pointless, buy diesel.
you know how apparently manufacturers look at this site to see opinions?
domestics obviously don't or they would have made or announced a diesel.
