Ending the arguement that Audi is for poor people that can't afford BMW or MB

I am a BMW owner (2003 X5 3.0i) and I have owned an Audi. (Fox). The Audi Fox was not a good car. I am very pleased with my X5. Previously, I have owned a Mercedes C280(1994)(The C280 broke down alot.) and a 528i(1997). I am not an Audi hater, just so you know. Or a Mercedes hater.

I currently own an Audi and BMW. I have owned Mercedes-Benz in the past.

I drove all audis (new ones) BTW, but i own a BMW.

I have a 02 Mercedes CLK Conv and an 01 Audi A6, and both have electrical issues. The A6 is a pain whenever it needs tires. THe CLK is a pain whenever it needs service. But all in all they are both great cars. I drive the CLK more cause there
s nothin like a convertible.
But I can't wait till my Jag XK gets here. Bye Bye Benz.

I don't think anybody ever claimed Audi was for "poor" people. I've owned many BMW's and have driven only an Audi S4, which I was greatly impressed with.

Huh? I know all about Audi. I've driven them, been around them, followed Audi news....etc.. I know that the Fox is NOTHING like the the new models they have now and have had for over a decade. I just seem to have better luck with BMW. I actually strongly considered the Allroad (in '03) for a replacement for my '01 MDX (mommy mobile). But I just couldn't get over the fact that it was a station wagon. So that's why I have a BMW. Audi is an impressive alternative to MBZ and BMW.

This "story" indicates that there are many insecure people in this world....worried about the wealth or status that their car projects compared to other makes. "Poor is the man whose pleasure depends on the permission of another".

I owned a 1997 Audi A8, and a 2001 Audi S4......both horrible vehicles to own. They drove beautifully and had wonderful exterior and interior design. But that was forgotten with the amount of times the cars were in the shop. ALWAYS.

I currently drive a 545i Sport and also have a 330i M-Sport in the garage. Both of em have never had any issues (after 2 years) and I feel much more secure with the BMW purchases over the Audi's.

Im not saying Audi's are terrible. They just need to focus on dealer network/SERVICE and make their vehicles more reliable.

When choosing between the two, status had nothing to do with it. The cars were what mattered. And the Audi's were a big let down.

All the german car manufacturers are expensive. No one considered truly poor could afford any of these new cars. You could drive an amazing car but live in a shack. You cannot judge how wealthly someone is by what kind of car they drive. Unless of course the car we are talking about is in the Enzo or Veyron department. That would be another story.

My 2002 Audi S4 has had one minor issue in its 5 years. Besides this, it's never been to the shop except for scheduled maintenance and oil changes.

For me, it's been a great vehicle to own.

Mom has Merc, Brother has Bimmer and Porsche, Father has Jeep and Porsche, I have Audi... My family is invested in all the German boys...

btw, my brother used to have a Jetta

The only one with a problem, to be honest was the Merc... otherwise, everything else has been terrific...

SixxFive, I wrote the article to end the debate that Audi was a poor man's car for those who can't afford a BMW or Mercedes-Benz.

As witnessed from the replies on this very thread, that obviously is not the case as there are several members who have owned cars from Audi, BMW and MB.


Audi prices are marginally lower than respective BMW and Mercedes-Benz models and in some cases Audis are priced higher than the competition.

Monthly lease payments are higher on an Audi A8L 4.2 than a BMW 750.

The previous generation RS6 cost more than the BMW M5 and MB E55 and the RS4 costs significantly more than the M3 and C55.

The A8L 6.0 W12 costs as much or more than a 760Li.

As you can see Audi has achieved parity in price when compared to BMW and in some cases the Audi costs more.

Clearly an Audi is not for poor people that cannot afford a BMW or MB.

Maybe in the past, Audi was a poor man's BMW or Benz, but not anymore.

In the '60s and '70s, Audi's looked like VW's, but were priced higher.

Nowadays, Audi is distinctively different from VW and truly deserves recognition. I wouldn't mind an Audi as my next car. An A6 3.0 TDI Quattro sounds nice - if only they sold this here!

Audi is no longer an "alternative" either. They offer tremendous cars at prices that match or surpass BMW.

GermanNut: so you wrote this 'Audi really is for rich people' story to end the debate and reassure everyone that it isn't for 'lower income people'....jeez...who cares. Cars are meant to be appreciate by all, regardless of income. Why do you care so much? Are you insecure?

I currently own a Cayenne and Jag x-type but recently had an Audi A6 and A4. I loved the Audis and never really had any problems. I chose the Audis because my co-workers were having so many problems with Mercedes and BMW. Audi service was always excellent (and free!)The current cars are problem-free but I miss the Audis. The worst car ever was a Honda Accord.

audi still is the cheaper BMw or Mercedes if you cant have a SL or 645i then you get an audi TT it's that simple

Most of your things are not facts, only opinions (though I agree with some of them)...

Audi's sales are barely lagging behind. They will catch up in the next 2-3 years in Europe. Its the US market thats making them lag in total deliveries.

Lexus are knockoffs of MBs, but yes, they are cheap knockoffs

And where did that dad thing come from? ha ha... funny though.
