A Mercedes rep said that the ad is an “exaggeration” of the strength of the vehicle, but that the spots are part of a suite of ads using humor to tout the safety of the GL line.

“It is farcical, and anyone seeing the spots can tell that it’s hyperbole,” said Donna Boland of Mercedes. “The typical consumer is smart enough to know that this is not a serious ad. Don't they (NAD) know that it is a joke, it is meant to be a joke. Why don't they looking into the Toyota ads, where the Tundra is hit by a comet or when it is washed into the ocean. Now those ads are not funny, but nobody looks at those, but Mercedes cross the line. What a bunch of bull. The ads were done so that everyone and I mean everyone see the joke.

Those ads are horrible, they are annoying. The Tundra ads are even worse. Both are weak lame idotic ads.
