VIDEO: A Classic In The Making? Looking Back On Ferrari's 430 Scuderia
The "entry-level" Ferraris always seem to be the most exciting products when you glance back into the past. Just think: The F430, 360 Modena, 355, 348, 328/308 and how about the Dino?

These mid-engined greats really helped take the prancing horse to new heights, from a driving dynamics perspective, and also brought the famed rossa corsa metal to many more garages.

But before the universally loved 458 Italia there was the F430. If the 430 was a big step from what was being created, the 458 was a HUGE leap forward.

Here's the interesting bit though: though the 458 decimates the 430, the special edition Scuderia's values have been maintained. Typically the mid-engined cars hold up well for a bit then crash. Just look how cheap you can pick up a 308/328, 348, 355 or even 360 these days.

The cynical side of me says that the 430 — and specifically the Scuderia — is doing well simply because I bet the 458's order book is slammed for a couple more years. Might as well get an F car for the wait.

But the romantic side of the whole thing led Autocar to take a look back and revisit the 430 Scuderia. I think it was probably just to get a Ferrari on a track. Good on 'em! ;)

The Ferrari 458 Italia is one of the world's finest supercars but its greatness was only acheived through the development of this, the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. If there was ever a modern Ferrari destined for future classic status, this is it.

Even thought the new Ferrari 458 Italia beat the Ferrari F430/Scuderia in the performance aspect I still like the F430/F430 Scuderia more. The F430 sound better at idle and when you step on the paddle to metal and it design is more classic. If I have the money I would definitely love to pick up a use Ferrari F430 Scuderia for myself.

You know, I have to say that while I love the 430 Scuderia and enjoyed my time in one, there's something about it I just don't LOVE about it. Same thing with the 458, though I will say it has MUCH better styling.

For me, make it a 355 GTS with a six-speed or a 360 Modena coupe, possibly a Challenge Stradale. Just me, though.
