BMW M3 Sold Out - No Future AWD M Models Planned
Car and Driver asked the head of BMW M, Friedrich Nitschke, a few questions about what the go-fast division had in mind for the future, and was rewarded with some enlightening answers. The best news to purist ears is that Nitschke said customers don't want all-wheel drive on their M cars, so it's the rear wheels alone that will propel new product into the future. If you want both an M badge and four driven wheels, it's the X5 M, X6 M and M Performance models you're looking for in the catalog.

This is a very bad decision for BMW's "M" GmbH division.

BMW's M5 and M6 have been routinely criticized for their poor driving experiences due to numb steering, dull handling and a lack of feedback.

Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles already routinely beat their BMW M counterparts in straight-line acceleration WITHOUT all-wheel drive.

Now with Mercedes-Benz AMG making their E63 and CLS63 AMG models come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive, the straight-line acceleration gap will get much wider.

Not to mention Audi's RS lineup comes standard with Quattro AWD and also routinely beats its respective BMW M counterpart in straight-line performance tests.

With its flagship M vehicles already getting criticized for a poor driving experience combined with the fact that now BMW's M vehicles stand NO chance in defeating their respective AMG and RS counterparts in straight-line acceleration tests does not bode well at all for M.

Every time you post I can't help but imagine the sound they made in Charlie Brown cartoons whenever the teacher would talk. I don't think that's the reaction Audi's marketing department had in mind when they hired you to guerrilla ambush anything even remotely BMW-related online. Seriously, it's counterproductive at this point.

everytime a new M car comes out, ppl come out and say BMW has lost their magic and the M car goes on to sell more than any prior generation and is eventually heralded the best in class.

the only difference is this time ppl are saying it even before the M car is out lol!
