Volkswagen Still Hasn't Ruled Out A FR-S Killer
Talk about a future Volkswagen roadster has reignited after VW design Chief Walter de Silva acknowledged that such project has still a lot of support within the company. Although the 2009 BlueSport roadster concept was put on hold because VW didn’t see a business case for it, there are at least some executives within the brand who still believe in the potential of a small roadster.

“I’m not the only one in our company who is convinced that a small roadster wouldn’t be the worst thing for Volkswagen,” de Silva said in an interview with Germany’s AMS magazine. “This is a vehicle that we particularly like, and we always have in mind,” VW’s design boss added.

Don't they already have a car that would battle the BRZ/FR-S? The Scirocco? Wouldn't that be a competent competitor? Bring it to the US!

Scirocco is FWD and will get hammered in the automotive press. The GTI is their FWD chariot.

VW could develop a platform, RWD based for the Audi TT, possible R4, this roadster and a coupe. Additionally, if they really wanted, they could base a small sedan/coupe off of the platform and go after 2-Series.

Yeah, why not, they were already killing scions best, the Tc. It wasn't even a comparison. While I will admit the FR-S is one tough act to follow, I do think VW could pull it off. After all, they do own Porsche and could easily use some of their technology/input.
