Ford Cracks The Code And Attracts The Youngest Buyers In The Segment with 2013 Fusion

Ford’s newly designed ’13 Fusion midsize sedan is flying off U.S. dealers’ lots, constrained only by production at the car’s Hermosillo, Mexico, assembly plant that is running full-tilt on a 3-crew pattern.

Fusion deliveries jumped 18.7% in April and surged 25.3% through the first four months to 107,280 units, according to WardsAuto data.

Ford’s bread-and-butter sedan is gaining popularity thanks to its sleek styling and array of technology, which is attracting younger car buyers, says Samantha Hoyt, Ford Fusion marketing manager.

“The percentage of customers under the age of 36 is almost 30%,” she tells WardsAuto. “That’s eight points higher than the prior model and makes us the youngest of the major competitors in the segment.”

I've always liked Ford European family cars (Fiesta, Focus, XR4Ti, Mondeo) better than their US-designed sibling, as far back as the 80s. Now the US market is showing that they also prefer the same. I hope Ford doesn't let its quality slips and waste the success of their effort over the last 5 years. I'm not too bothered by the Aston Martin grill, at least it looks right. The argument that Ford did own Aston Martin for 13 years during Aston's revival in the early 2000s doesn't justify it but bottom line is that it works on this car and we're talking about two completely different market segments so I don't think Aston Martin owners are going to get worked up about someone confusing them for owning a Ford.
