Tesla's Model S Delivers AND WINS Consumer Report's Nod — Are YOU Convinced?
I remember it like yesterday. Tesla was in the headlines for its questionable range. At that time I made it VERY clear: as no independent body had properly tested the vehicle, I said that I'd wait until Consumer Reports gave it a full test. Then, I'd make my decision.

Well, folks, that time has come.

And wow did the Model S bring it. Consumer Reports gave the vehicle a 99 out of a 100. That's sensational. Probably the biggest news in this test is that being an electric vehicle actually worked IN FAVOR of its test results.

As a user commented the other day, the Model S is emerging like roaches and to me its very clear why. It's a damn good product.

BUT, does this review convince YOU?

While I've read a bunch of CR reviews and I don't necessarily agree with ALL of the publication's perspective, I do have to admit it has a good chunk of the buying public's concerns in check.

There, we said it. The Tesla Model S outscores every other car in our test Ratings. It does so even though it's an electric car. In fact, it does so because it is electric.

Built from the ground up as an EV, this car's overall balance benefits from mounting the battery under the floor and in the lowest part of the body. That gives the car a rock-bottom center of gravity that enables excellent handling, a comfortable ride, and lots of room inside. Plus, it has a front trunk where other cars' gasoline engines would be, in addition to its large rear cargo space. This big luxury hatchback even seats seven, with its optional third-row jump seat.

Very nice, now we just need more charging stations.

Sure, why not. It looks nice while different from other luxury sedans, very good dynamic performance (speed and handling), quality and elegant interior, advanced technology, great "fuel economy" relative to other cars, has certain sense of exclusivity from limited supply, and it has cool and distinct features that other cars don't have. Combined this with the fact that its price is in the same ballpark as other luxury sedans (unlike smaller hybrid and electric cars where they are 15% - 20% higher than their petrol cousins). In essence, it does everything other cars do a little better, great fuel economy, and in the same price. As for its limited range, yes, it is but it doesn't affect your daily commute so it weighs less on people's mind (remember iPhone when they first came out and how quickly they drain their battery, well now people are used to daily charging).

It caught my eye when I saw the Tesla S on the highway two months ago for the first time. Cool sporty design, as good or better than a Jaguar XF.

Exactly.

"Lightning quick 5.6 secs" ?

535d, A6 3.0 BiTDI and quite a few others can comfortably beat that time and still return over 500 miles on a full tank.

"Corner flat like a sports car" while showing us significant body roll.

I admit i like the overall package even though its not for me, I however take exception to the marketing BS spewed by an agency thats supposed to be reviewing the vehicle.

And most important, they do not cost so much.

No I'm not convinced. Very nice vehicle BUT until there are plenty on charging stations all over the USA and a charging times under 30 mins, I will not be convinced. The car costs too much not to have these issues handled.

I like the car but still not the economical choice in the segment. Plus you are still limited by range. My commute is only 20 minutes, but for the rare times I go on a road trip for further distances, it just won't work.

aside from being power by electric, why would a person prefer this over an Audi S7?

Or an A7 with the BiTDI engine in it.

i wouldnt get it because i have days that i drive about 300+ miles in one day.. i cant afford more than 1 car, and dont want this if it cant do 400+ miles a day driving hard, not some economy crap mode.
for those who drive less than 200 miles a day i think its a great choice.
