Which Is More Impressive Scaling A Ski Jump Or A Ski Slope In The Snow?
Audi first did it in 1985 with a Quattro 100 scaling a 39 degree ski jump in the snow to demonstrate the amazing abilities of the then relatively new Quattro system.  To back up the point, in 2005 they replicated the task with an A6 at the same location with a much faster speed to the top.

Now we have  an interesting twist with a GT-R scaling a ski slope with average 40 degree inclines.

Which is more impressive?  The methodical scaling of ski jump, or the all-out run of the slope with plenty of room to gain momentum?

Both are impressive but we must have a winner.

The original quest in 1985....

20 years later in 2005...

2013 with a GT-R

LOL, yeah. i wonder if you need special permission/authorization to go driving a car on a ski slope.

The Audis used cables. Not nerve racking at all. The is no way this cars would have just stopped at the top without sliding backwards. Also the cars would not have gone up the perfectly straight without something pulling them. GTR did it all buy itself. Much more impressive.

i remember there was a "making of" video for how audi made the ski jump video. yes there was a cable but it was not pulling the car, the cable was a safety cable in case something went wrong. but haters gonna hate, so believe what you want...

Please share the video with me. I will change my opinion if it appears that the cable didn't in fact do anything. Part of this is also how deep is the snow. If you think about the ski jump, the snow depth is much smaller. There is no platform below for the tires to grab on to on the ski mountain. For that reason, I think it is far more impressive.

to montyz81,
about 2/3 into this article is an explaination of what the cable was for:

there are links on youtube for the videos on how it was done but they are in german unfortunately:

thanks for keeping an open mind. the most impressive part of the video is the fact that its driving up an 80% gradient and they actually needed studded tires and a powerful engine to make it to the top.
