EU Proposes Restricting Top Speed Of Delivery Vans
The top speed of vans in the European Union should be electronically limited to 120kph (75 mph), according to a proposal backed by the European Parliament's environment committee.

The plan is part of a debate on how to cut carbon emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of Europe's vehicles. It would only become law if approved by EU member states.

Under Tuesday's proposal, vehicle makers would have to fit all new vans sold in the EU with devices to restrict their speed starting Jan. 1, 2014.

So I have a few questions here:

1) How often to delivery vans exceed 75mph?
2) How much would it really net in CO2 savings?

It sounds like someone worked some theoretical averages instead of attempting to find out real numbers, and as such the savings probably aren't going to be near what they're thinking

Restricting the top speed isn't going to do much for emissions, especially considering hard acceleration emits far more.
