Say It Isn't So, Maserati!
Yup, you won't believe what you're about to read. Call it a "sign of the times," or call it blasphemous. Your pick.

According to the latest sources, Maserati will be producing diesel motors for the all-new Ghibli. And here's where it gets even more intriguing. Maserati will be working alongside the "artisans" of Maranello — Ferrari — in the production of the oil burner. They want to get the sound "right."

If you're worried about a lack of grunt, have no fear. The GM of Europe, Giulio Pastore, revaled to Auto Express that the Ghibli diesel will have 275 horsepower and over 440 lb.-ft. of torque. Zero to 60 is expected in six seconds.

So, if it sounds "right," is quick and gets decent mpg is it all that bad?

Just like BMW did with Turbo-charging all its engines, Maserati is starting to make diesel engines as an option. It is called " Adapting to new market needs and demands" On a side note: Isn't this car gorgeous! I think it has the right proportions and size to become a hit!

They have to do this if they are going to appeal to European buyers. If they can make it as fast and efficient as a M550d or even a 535d then they will win new customers over

As a previous BiTurbo Spyder owner, I remember all too well when Maserati said "lets be special and pressurize INTO the carburetor" with the turbos... What a disaster that car was so I'd wait and see how many "unusual avenues" they've gone down with this new diesel before buying.
