Aston Martin And Mercedes-Benz To Get Chummy, Chummy?

Aston Martin And Mercedes-Benz To Get Chummy, Chummy?
Although Aston Martin remains one of my favorite marques at the moment, that could come to a screeching halt. That's because the independent automaker could be teaming up with Mercedes-Benz in the near future.

This isn't exactly shocking news as it was rumored not so long ago. However, now that it's been confirmed that both parties are in "early stage" talks, it could very well be a reality.

Though Aston isn't technically on it's own entirely — it has two major shareholders, Investindustrial and Investment Dar — it still is on its own when it comes to involvement with other automakers. Yeah, it did work with Toyota on that silly IQ-based car but let's be real, that's not a proper Aston and never will be.

No word on what exactly a future partnership could bring though I think it's painfully obvious that the R&D costs that go into producing all-new motors and chassis has been hampering Aston Martin. That's why the all-new Vanquish is still based on the VH architecture and its motor is that old-school, but still adored, 6.0-liter V12.

Daimler, owners of the Mercedes-Benz brand, is reportedly in ‘early stage’ talks with Aston Martin about supplying components and working with the British car maker on technical assistance.

The talks involve Aston Martin bosses and the two major shareholders, Investindustrial and the Kuwaiti-listed Investment Dar...

Word of wise to Aston...M-B will woo you, screw you and then dump you. They simply do not play well with other. M-B will first try to dominate you and when push comes to shove over whose sports cars and GT's will get the best technology and support give you the short end of the stick. If you are going to get in bed with someone do it with someone who has something to offer you (technology, capital, distribution), does not compete dirtectly with you and wants your strengths (access to high end buyers, class, sports and Gt's market player). An Aston M-B combination will not end well in the end.

You talk like MB doesn't have class. Lol, don't forget they have expensive cars as well. I know where you are coming from. But it seems like you have a sour taste in your mouth with MB.

I actually think it's good for both of them. Aston's tiny, MB can squash them easily. But both of these companies prestige can help each other. In fact, Aston's designers should have some influence on new MB's because the designs are horrible as of late. Astons are instant classics through and through.

Aston needs to buy new chassis and engines for its future models. They chose M-B.
