Happy Mother's Day! What Is YOUR Best Memories Of Your Mom And Cars?

Happy Mother's Day! What Is YOUR Best Memories Of Your Mom And Cars?
Happy Mother's Day out there to all of the Spies' moms!

Now, I don't know about you guys but I am a momma's boy. Yup, truth be told. What can I say, she only did birth me. But while reflecting today with the rest of my family I started going through my dim memory and reconnecting the moments I had with my mom and — predictably — cars.

Take, for example, all of the times she drove me and my brother to football practice — in pads and helmets — in her rickety 1980s Chevrolet Caprice Classic station wagon. That thing spent MORE time in the shop then getting us to our various practices, but, generally speaking, it took a beating from our muddy cleats and my various siblings. It DID feel like a tank on the road though!

Or, how about learning to drive in a church parking lot one day before I was to have an official driving lesson. I remember being so nervous behind the wheel of that mint green Toyota Camry and realizing that an automatic will roll when you take your foot off the brake. So naive back then!

That said, I want to turn it to you guys to share your favorite memories of your moms, driving and anything auto-related.

Take it away, boys and girls!

I know I am not the only one. While watching an episode of Counting Cars, "The Count" recently had some buyers shopping his personal collection. When they turned to his mom's 1950s Chevrolet Bel Air drop-top and they inquired about it, Danny reflected and got a bit emotional. Of course he didn't let it go!

oh man... my first memory was me being upset at the age of 4 that my dad was making my mom get rid of her 1978 trans am in favor of a brand new cutlass. On the way home from picking it up, I dropped a package of Bonkers candy down in trim panel where the seatbelt retracted into. Car smelled like strawberries for years. That one was eventually traded for an early 90's Mercury Sable which is where I learned how to do my first basic car maintenance in changing out all those friggin headlamp bulbs that went across the front. Then it was mini-van years for hauling around the football and baseball teams. Wow... never really thought about it but she has terrible taste in vehicles ;) Oh well! She's the still the best.

My mom was a trend setter. While all the other moms in the late 80s were getting minivans, she went straight to the SUV with a '89 Isuzu Trooper manual.

BTW, my mom has a track record of buying cars from failed car companies. In order, 84 OldsMobile Eightynine, 89 Isuzu Trooper, 93 Isuzu Trooper (this would later become mine), 98 Mercury Mountaineer, 2007 Mercury Mariner. She has a Ford Edge now. Hope the curse ends.
