2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus Defeats Nissan GT-R Track Pack in MotorTrend Comparison Test!
It doesn't get much faster than these two. The Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R tear relentlessly at the pavement with four driven wheels and an uninterrupted supply of thrust courtesy of twin-clutch transmissions. Want a quicker all-wheel-drive car? Your options are the Lamborghini Aventador ($400,000) and Bugatti Veyron (add a million)*.

The GT-R, then, with its 545 hp and $116,710 price, would seem a bargain. A Track Pack adds brake cooling ducts, retuned shocks, higher spring rates, and a rear seat delete, on top of the forged wheels borrowed from the Black Edition. New for the R8 this year is a twin-clutch transmission and a V10 Plus model. The latter hones the car with ceramic rotors, a smaller fuel tank, fixed rate shocks, manual seats, and carbon-fiber trim pieces. That's a total weight savings of 130 pounds. Oh, and it makes 25 hp more.

Interesting.... GT-R is 2.4 sec faster than R8 in a course that doesn't even take 1:30. Amazing.

"I wish my race car handled like that." - That said it all.

The Nissan GT-R Track Pack clearly won the performance comparisons, but it goes to show that HOW you go about achieving your performance is more important than the LEVEL of performance you ultimately achieve. A point that can best be summarized by the following quote:

"A convincing argument exists for both cars. The GT-R certainly earns respect for being so spectacularly dominant at speed, but it neglects the subtle but hugely enjoyable elements of driving a car. It sees the apex, but misses the road. The R8 has depth. Its ease of use and comfort mean you could drive it every day, and yet that functionality doesn't impede the fun when you drive it fast. Crucially, though, and unlike with the Nissan, you don't have to be at the absolute limit to enjoy it. The R8 wins, not because it's more refined and sounds and looks better, but because, simply, we all want to keep driving it."

JRobUSC, can your argument get any worst? Since the Audi R8 V10 Plus is easier to drive and more comfortable for everyday use when compared to the Nissan GT-R Fast Pack and remains so even when driven hard, it's Audi's advertising that paid for the result?

The Nissan GT-R Fast Pack is a stronger performer but unless you're driving it at its ultimate limit, it's simply not nearly as comfortable or refined for everyday use as the Audi R8 V10 Plus. In addition, the Nissan GTR Fast-Pack is not as pleasurable in terms of its sound or looks as the R8 V10 Plus.

JRob you have become one of the worst trolls here, you only "appear" to either boast about a random BMW comparo, or critique Audi if heaven-forbid it beats a BMW or any other make. Be honest, if this was an AMG you would be fawning over it's "raw power", yet because an Audi won you come up with some bizarro lame excuse why which is all the more ironic considering every car mag in America is constantly accused of just that when a BMW wins.

For someone that tries to come across as a true car aficionado, you spend 90% of your time here trashing only one brand while cheerleading for BMW.

Same conclusion Chris Harris reached comparing the R8 to the Turbo S and a 725hp GTR. Same conclusion Automobile, EVO and CAR reached as well when comparing the R8 to a 458, MP4, Jag F, 991S cab and GTR. Some cars are faster, but none are as a rewarding drive.

Audi has given the R8 CPR and it seems to work.

Ok, I don't really get what these reviewers want. So you are comparing two fast.. sports cars.. and the GTR wins in almost every metrics (speed, price, mpg, trunk space) plus a V6 compared to V10 and you come out and say the R8 wins because it is more comfortable and refined for everyday use. They must be smoking something. If you want a comfortable car, you would chose the A8. It is comfortable for everyday use and has the power for once a while fast driving.

How can a car that goes around turns with ease not fun to drive.

Disclaimer: I have not driven any of these cars and this is just my opinion/ observation.

Audi is back in the game?

If I had the money, I would take both cars. As it is, if I were to buy one of the cars, I would still take the GT-R because I would drive something a little less focused as a commuter, like a M3.

Motor Trend's pro driver Randy Pobst -- who tested the Audi R8 and Nissan GTR -- is the 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2010 SCCA World Challenge GT champion and is a two-time class winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona, in 2001 and 2006. Obviously Pobst knows something about taking cars to the limit on a race track. Yet JRobUSC thinks he knows more than Pobst.

The Audi R8 GT should be slightly faster on the track than the R8 V10 Plus.

- The R8 GT (3362 lbs, 560 HP) is lighter and more powerful than the R8 V10 Plus (3605 lbs, 550 HP)

- At the Hockenheim race track, the Audi R8 GT (1:09.60) posted a faster track time than the Nissan GTR (1:09.94), Audi R8 V10 Plus (1:10.60) and Porsche 911 Turbo S (1:10.90).

- The R8 GT scored 69 out of 70 marks on Horst von Sauma's supertest

So if you ask Randy Pobst which car he will take to the track. Would it be the R8 V10 Plus or the GTR?
