Have An Extra $30k Canadian Lying Around? You May Want To Snap Up One Of The RAREST Mercedes AMGs
In the past handful of years it seems that Mercedes-Benz's AMG division has been taking just about everything and throwing that V8 powerplant in it. Of course when the R-Class first made its debut, it was not an exception to the law.

Thus, the R63 was born.

Now I am not sure if you all are aware but the R63 is actually one of the rarest AMG products stateside. Rumor has it only 70-80 are in the U.S.

So, if you missed the boat, you may want to hop on it now that one is available. Head's up, it is located in Canada.

There's a reason they canned the R-class and no amount of hp will make it more attractive.

They haven't canned the R-Class, the facelifted version is still on sale in European markets, and some other markets, like South Africa, as well. Saying that, I've never understood why it got the green light.

I thought the R-class was supposed to be updated or that a next-gen model was on the way. As M-B works on the next GL, ML, GLK, & new GLA; it would make sense to continue the R. The luxury sport tourer is a good niche between the large CUV and the minivan. Always wondered why Chrysler killed the Pacifica, it would be a better alternative for people that didnt really want a T&C or Caravan. And differentiating the exterior trim would either give it softer-general feel or make it as aggressive as possible....of course engine options would need to be included as well.

US was Benz's biggest market (along w/Germany), for the R-class to be cancelled here is huge not to mention it was one of the top 10 worst selling vehicles in the US!

Well, this may be a case of "only a mother could love it," but our family fleet has a diesel, 4-maticl R Class and we do LOVE IT! Once you get used to it, it's really not bad looking, and for it's size (huge inside!) and payload it's actually fairly pleasant to my eye. The thing is a perfect autobahn cruiser and is one of the best long haul cars we've owned. We have adult children on the other side of the country and our R Class has made 3 fully loaded round trips (3000 mi+ each way) across the US in the last 2 years. It's a WAY more comfortable interstate trip car than any SUV I've driven (and I've owned many). Our R Class has crossed the Rockies in mid-winter in drifting snow and sheets of ice without a driver ever breaking a sweat. In the hottest summer weather it will cruise 75-80 even at altitude in Montana if conditions and enforcement allow, with full ac front and back and still turn in 25 mpg with a very full load. The car is never as happy as when it's on the road and we're very disappointed that when this one hits senility, there won't be a new one in the offing. So put me down as one of the rare fans of this vehicle! It's NOT really an SUV, and it's definitely not a "go shopping" car, but it fits some niches for some folks! Too bad it's gone.
