One thing I've observed about Marchionne in regard to Fiat.He is a man that is very prone to changing his mind.Until Fiat and Chrysler have merged into one he needs to keep his playing cards hidden. For Fiat to come out prior to the merger and catagorically state their going to move their headquarters to Auburn Hills from Turin would not be a very smart move. For one the unions in Italy as well as the government might really creat problems for Fiats Euro operations. All Fiat needs is a major strike in Italy or the government coming down on them. The other point is that while Europe had been foundering it could also start to come back.In any case it is better to wait to see how the merger goes, how sales go in Europe. I believe what is more probable is that this may either be done in steps or Fiat may simply enhance Auburn hills to the same level as Turin thereby operating as 2 centers.
