Would The Purists Accept A Toyota Based BMW Sportscar?
There were many elements to the partnership which BMW and Toyota announced back in January. Some of it comes down to diesel engines (which BMW has and Toyota needs) and hybrid powertrains (which Toyota has and BMW needs).

But the more exciting part of the collaboration that everyone’s been looking forward to the most is the joint sportscar program, which was reportedly already under way when the deal was announced. Now Motor Trend has put together its projection of what form the finished product will take.

Purists don't accept anything, even some "pure" BMWs.

It all comes down to how it drives and if it evokes memories of BMWs from old.

If you can date Kate Upton without giving a shit what her mom or dad looked like or how she was raised, you can buy a Toyota based BMW if it excites you.

Why would any puirist take a BMW when there's Porsche? Such a simple answer.

BMW have forgotten about the "Purists" a long time ago. More of a poser brand now. How can BMW call themselves a purists brand when they sell $60,000 coupes without a limited Slip Differential.

Who cares??! AMG only offers it with the Sport Package, which starts at a $2k premium. So I guess AMG isn't a purist brand now?

I'll re-write this. What purists would accept A BMW based Toyota sportscar? It would dilute the next Supra to think that there is a BMW under its skin. But unfortunately, in today's world these tie-upes are inevitable.

"BMW needs help with hybrid powertrains" What about the i3 and i8? Truth be told, I would not be interested in any BMW/Toyota mongrel. BMW should stick to basics: sporty sedans, coupes, SAV's and forget about Porsche.
