DRIVEN: Yet ANOTHER Negative Acura RLX Review — When Is That Hybrid Showing Up?

DRIVEN: Yet ANOTHER Negative Acura RLX Review — When Is That Hybrid Showing Up?
I remember someone cawing like a bird that the Acura RLX wasn't that bad and it was actually the top of its class. Clearly, it's not. And it doesn't take much more than reading the vehicle's Monroney to understand it's a pretty weak offering.

And yet another reviewer goes on to call it out for being, frankly, lame.

Here are a couple of my favorite bits:

Strip away the $61,345 price tag and ignore all of its competitors, and the 2014 Acura RLX isn't a bad car.

...

Unfortunately, the RLX has plenty of competition, since it swims in the choppy waters of the midsize luxury pool. Its peers throw into sharp relief the fact that the RLX feels and drives too much like a Honda to justify even the $48,450 base price.

...

Eager driving was further discouraged by the transmission's manual mode. Start tapping the standard paddle shifters and the car rolls off upshifts so slowly you'd think they were relayed by carrier pigeon.

I am not sure about you guys and girls but I am enjoying the show with my tub of popcorn. Oh, and for all the naysayers that say "There are positive reviews out there," please submit them via that BIG red button on the top left corner. I have yet to see one.

It's time you and your popcorn ask the gay driving enthusiast community to re-orient your negative attitudes about Acura RLX. There may still be (some) hope for you yet...

Gay Wheels on the Acura RLX: "Conclusion (Do You Want to Buy One?). If we were in the market for a midsize luxury sport sedan, the new 2014 Acura RLX should be a sore temptation, due to its relative affordability, terrific handling, class leading technology, handsome styling, terrific interior ergonomics, and simply because you won’t see someone coming and going in your exact same car every other minute. Do you ever turn your head when you see a Mercedes E350? No. With its relative rarity, the RLX will attract attention wherever you go, yet it will always manage to look discreet and classy enough for any situation or occasion. And on the driving front, we can guarantee that it will always excite you, but never leave you exhausted from the experience. Unlike that 22-year-old we hear you’re dating."

Wall Street Journal's Driver's Seat: 'When I saw the gray luxury car in my driveway I figured my father-in-law was visiting. He drives a gray BMW 5-Series sedan and the four-door parked outside looked like his. Then I reminded myself: “No, silly — that’s your 2014 Acura RLX test car.” I tell you, that new Acura looks almost exactly like the Bimmer, at least it does from behind.'

But you're missing the point: the car is ONLY rare because no one is buying them anywhere near the volume of the competition and it's cheaper to boot! Your argument would be valid if EVERY review trashed the A6, E-class and 5-series (along w/the GS)but those cars always get great reviews for quality, performance and desirability..not to mention resale. Acuras usually score their points on being a "bang for the buck" but most people in this class of vehicle ($50k+)don't CARE about saving a few grand.

LOL. 00R, I can only assume you are referring to me. I have never, ever stated that the RLX was at the "top of the class". I only stated that it's not as bad as this site and select journalists like to make it out to be.

That is all I'm going to say on this thread. There's no use in making any further comments.

Everyone has said the same thing.

It's an OK vehicle but OK won't cut it in this highly competitive class.

@00rhatred

You clearly weren't breastfed enough as a kid.

Mommy didn't hug you? ;)

You must be one of the three people who bought that joke of a car, the RLX.

That's why I provided the links in my message. Why submit a link with the fabulous 'BIG' red button when the Agents write in their own biases in the thread title...

Oh and Agent00R, you're very welcome...I can provide more positive reviews if you really want, or you could admit your bias and do an honest search yourself.

The RLX isn't perfect but it's far from a turd...most reviews say as much.

@ihaveareds2000

This is the reality. It's an OK car for the right buyer — like all cars there's an ass for every seat. But there's NO way it will be a class leader at the end of the day, which is what most folks are trying to figure out.

@Agent00R

The reality is that you are bias. You asked for positive reviews. I gave them to
you. Kinda like how I gave you guys links to how the original NSX was a game-changer and the front-wheel drive Integra type-R was a genuine, great handling car.

Will the RLX be a leader in its segment? Absolutely not in sales, that's for sure...it's got an up hill battle dealing with the small minded biases that are
so prevalent in the luxury market...and apparently on autospies. Will it be tops
in class in performance, value, handling? I'd say it's a competitive field with
no clear winners...Acura doesn't stand out in any area, perhaps rear seat
legroom, but it hardly embarrasses itself in the above mentioned areas when
compared to comparatively equipped competitors...

I'm not a huge fan of the RLX, but I can see it for what it is without getting
on the oh-so-tiring Acura/Honda bash wagon...

im no fan of the RLX but this review is so biased, it makes me sick. honda/acura did a fantastic job with this engine, increasing power/torque and better efficiency than virtually anything in its class (entry level engines). the author negates this achievement by saying, well i can just buy a hybrid model to get better efficiency..., which hybrid gives you a nice high revving, smooth v6 pushing 300+hp at this price? a complaint of the outgoing RL was small rear seats, the new RLX is class leading in size. authors respons: who cares about rear seat size... this is just another example of crap journalism at its finest... thanks for the worthless link
