Lexus To Launch LF-CC Based IS Coupe Next Year - Who Should Worry?

Lexus To Launch LF-CC Based IS Coupe Next Year - Who Should Worry?
After much teasing and prodding, Lexus finally unveiled the third-generation IS sedan earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show.

Well, it looks like the Japanese automaker isn’t done with its IS lineup just yet.

According to What Car, Lexus is expected to launch a coupe version of the IS in 2014, which will be based on the IS sedan.

As far as styling goes, the IS Coupe will take inspiration from the 2012 LF-CC Concept that we first saw at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Should that be the case, you can expect the IS Coupe to carry some of the concept’s design elements, including the large trapezoidal front grille, the contoured and aggressive looking profile, and the expansive use of LED lights.

Only two IS generations late. Toyota should have brought this to market long before the IS SportCross.

As it is, I think the design is too aggressive for the old and will probably come at a premium compared to the market approved G37 Coupe. Size wise, it looks to be smaller than any of its competitors: A5, 4 series coupe and G37 Coupe. A smaller size could be a good thing, but could also be to its detriment.

The IS sedan is a joke compared to the competition. Therefore, a coupe based on the IS sedan is a joke as well. No one should be worried except Lexus themselves as the IS line will be another failure in a futile attempt to dethrone the benchmark 3-series.

Dumbest comment I've heard in a while. For it to be remotely accurate that would mean that it's sales would be subpar (they're not), would decline gen to gen (didn't) and would consistently rank last in comparos (last gen IS350 beat the 335i in a comparo...and just did again recently).

32-33,000 IS vs. 99,000+ 3-series isn't subpar?

Were you not reading what he wrote or are you just illiterate. He was making a case about IS sales (in general) not being subpar, which at 33k is not subpar, considering that number reflects old-gen IS sales. He stated that the new IS350 beat the 3-series in a recent comparison tests (C&D I think) whereas your silly little link compares old IS vs 3-series.

"The IS handled well on the Texas track, showing it “hunkers down and barrels through” on twisty roads, Kelsey Mays of Cars.com said in a March 25 review after the test. Still, handling didn’t match that of BMW (BMW)’s 3 Series, “the drift king of this class,” Mays wrote."

That quote was from the article I posted. The last sentence was the most important as it showed just how subpar the new IS is.

Can't say for sure but I hope they finally figured out its not a bad idea to offer a coupe that's not convertible.

i think this will eat into all the usual suspects sales, not that its better, but just another option in the mix.
