Is THIS The Car Audi Has To Make To Continue Its Stream Of Success? What Happened To The Quattro Concept? Is It DEAD or ALIVE?
If you take a good look at the current-generation A5 and S5 coupe, you have to tilt your head and wonder: just how will Audi be able to succeed that design? It's a very strong one that has kept people's attention since the vehicle's debut AND it's timeless.

10 years down the road, the A5/S5 will still look good. You can't say that about every auto design.

But if you were to ask us exactly how Audi should follow this fantastic design up, we'd have an answer. It debuted at the Paris Motor Show years ago and caused quite a stir due to its historic nameplate: the Quattro Concept.

The problem is simple: the concept hasn't be spotted.

That is until now. Finally we've seen it yet again on the cover of a magazine — Auto Zeitung — via a user submission. And while I don't understand German, it appears that the cover is saying we'll be seeing it make a sensational debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).

What makes it interesting is that it doesn't seem that it would be slated as an A5/S5 replacement but as something above that. How do I know? Well, it forecasts around 650 horsepower. Obviously, a substantial figure.

What say you, Spies? Is THIS the car Audi has to build to up the ante?

2010 Car and Driver review of first drive.

Autozeitung article: If this latest version has 650 HP, it will have about 250 HP more than the 2010 concept (which was then supposed to have a 3.9 second acceleration to 100 km/h or 62 mph). An extra 250 HP and extra torque should reduce that acceleration to around 3 seconds, possibly less. In the new R8 GT territory.

The next generation A4 will be introduced in 2014, while the next gen A5 in 2015. Both cars will probably feature some watered down design elements of from the Quattro concept. Thus it's possible the Quattro itself might be introduced together with the new A4/A5 line.

This car is nice to have. But Audi does not need it to continue its momentum of success.

Car and Driver mag on driving the 2010 Audi Quattro concept then with 408 HP: "Audi PR chief Josef Schlossmacher, riding shotgun, never once suggested we slow down, which speaks volumes for the Quattro concept. It’s a real car.... from the moment it launches, the Quattro feels as though it has a completely sorted drivetrain. The clutch engages smoothly, and the car moves off. It then gathers speed like a fully calibrated production car. And then it gathers more speed like a seriously fast production car. Audi claims 0 to 62 mph in fewer than four seconds, and we don’t doubt it.... the car feels utterly composed... From our short drive, it’s clear the Quattro concept is already a real driver’s car... This is too nice a car not to go into production." The 2010 car's power-to-weight ratio was 7 lbs per horsepower. Now imagine this car updated version with a 650 HP engine (4.4 lbs per horsepower), latest technologies and further weight reduction.
