BMW Technology At It's Finest, Park Your Car Using Nothing But Your Key Fob
There's nothing like a little 007-type technology to impress a friend or potential Bond-girl. BMW's Remote-Controlled Parking is exactly what it sounds like: the ability to exit and park your vehicle in even the tightest parking spots with nothing but your key fob.

Audi has been there, done that.... months ago.

See an Audi A7 perform the even more impressive feat of self parking from the drop off point to inside the parking garage of a shopping center or office building.

Now that's even better technology at its finest.

Self parking in a house garage? Boring.

And when will that Audi feature get to market? Just like their supposed electric cars, it's fine to say what you could do in theory, it's another thing to actually do it. My money is on this being an actual feature on BMW cars soon, unlike many of the Audi "ideas" that seem to just evaporate with the marketing.

Firewombat, that's what you keep parroting as a BMW fanboy. But we all know that, in recent years, Audi has a better record of creating and bring new ideas to market than BMW. BMW has been showing off its i8 electric car since 2009 at auto shows and in several TV ads in the last five years. So where is the BMW electric car???

The Audi A3 e-tron will probably reach the market before BMW.

Funny, I haven't heard of any launch dates for the A3 e-tron, just talk as usual. The i3 has a launch date for September 2013 in Europe, so suppose we'll have to see but considering how much "vorsprung" has been copied by Audi over the years:

A1
A7
Q3
Q5
Q7

etc, all arrived after BMW or Merc launched the segment, not much could be said for Audi in that regard, vorsprung indeed. So all these "ideas" you're talking about?

And those are just the models, what about night vision, MMI, etc. Copies. Audi and new ideas, not much of a connection.

BMW/Mercedes did not launch the luxury SUV segment. In 1966, Kaiser Jeep (later Jeep) launched its luxury Super Wagoneer. In 1970, Land Rover launched the Range Rover. Even the Mercedes G Wagon came out only years later. Before BMW's X5 there was the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade.

Mercedes CLS was not the first four door coupe. In the 1960s, the low-roof versions of the Rover P5 was considered a four-door coupe. Then there was the Toyota Carina ED in 1985 and especially the Infiniti J30 in 1992. Even the 1997 to 2004 Audi A6 was marketed as a coupe-like sedan.

A1 segment? You aren't seriously claiming that BMW or Mercedes invented the segment? Even the Volkswagen Polo existed i 1975.

Wow, you're really confused but the fact is that the ML was there first, I don't think anybody would consider a 1960's Jeep or the original RR luxurious, that car was designed for farmers.

The CLS was the first modern-day 4 door coupe and NOBODY EVER thought the A6 was a coupe.

The A1 was yet another market response, way to catch up, to the success of the Mini Cooper. That is widely understood.

Wow you must also believe that the Moon was originally designed by BMW in 1998.

The Mercedes M-Class (ML 320 etc.) was first introduced in 1997. In the year 2050 no one will consider the 1998 ML 320 or 1999 BMW M5 to be luxurious.

The Kaiser Jeep (or Jeep) Super Wagoneer was the first luxury SUV to offer luxury equipment and vehicle trim: V8 engine (270 hp), automatic transmission, air conditioning, power tailgate, power brakes, power steering, seven-position tilt steering wheel, tinted windows, bucket seats, three-tone body striping, sun roof, padded vinyl roof with chrome roof-rack, full wheel hubcaps, white-wall tires. In the context of the 1960s and 1970s, these were luxury items.

The Mercedes CLS was designed upon a rip-off of the 1999 Dodge Charger concept. But the 1992 Infiniti J30, 1985 Toyota Carina ED and 1965 Rover P5 (low roof version) all predated the CLS and were all considered modern-day 4 door coupe back in their days. Designs evolve over the years: in 30 years, the 2004 Mercedes CLS will look dated.

The 2008 to 2004 Audi A6 was marketed as a coupe-like sedan. E.g., in 1997, Motor Trend described the then new Audi A6: "a more coupe-like roofline impart an entirely new character to the car, making it noticeably sportier and more aggressive than its predecessor". At the time, the A6 was described as "coupe-like' in appearance or styling.

You need to widely understand what you do not widely understand. The Audi A1 is bigger (155.7 in x 68.5 in) than the Mini Cooper (146.8 in x 66.3 in). The A1 is in the supermini class, which ironically does not include the smaller Mini Cooper. The supermini class are small hatchbacks that are larger and more versatile than a Mini yet smaller than other cars. Though the A1 could compete with the smaller mini, the supermini class includes cars such as Alfa Romeo MiTo, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Peugeot 207, Toyota Yaris, Citroen C3, Skoda Fabia, Fiat Punto, Seat Ibiza, Hyundai i20, Chevrolet Aveo, Mazda2.

->satriani1 dont forget the BMW touring from 1971 I guess the first premium mini. It came years before the VW golf, actually it was ahead of its time.

You're referring to the BMW 2002 touring hatchback, right? Do you know its length and width (to compare with the A1 and Mini)? The VW Golf is next size up over the A1, it's more like an A3 in size.
