WHAT Car And WHICH Road Gives YOU The Most PURE Driving Experience?

WHAT Car And WHICH Road Gives YOU The Most PURE Driving Experience?
In a Dunlop-sponsored video, Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe takes to one of the U.K.'s oldest and, seemingly, dangerous roads — the Hardknott Pass. And while the clip oozes a bit too much commercial love for Dunlop, I do have to say it does posit a great question:

What is a PURE driving experience?

Though I'll leave it to you to ultimately define that, I'll throw up a suggestion.

For me, driving is like therapy. I need it to wind me down after a brutal week of work. That said, a pure driving experience is having a ton of fun without any of the niceties of most modern rides. No A/C, no fancy gadgetry. Just you and the road.

If YOU could pick a CAR and ROAD, which and where would it be for YOUR PURE driving experience?

We've teamed up with Dunlop Tyres to deliver eight Pure Driving Experiences. In the first instalment, Steve Sutcliffe takes to the Hardknott Pass in the Lake District in a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series.

Stay tuned over the coming months for the world's greatest cars on some of the world's greatest roads.

I'll lead off...

Porsche Cayman R is the ride, preferably with the Sport Exhaust, carbon fiber-backed seats and no A/C.

Route 9W from Alpine NJ into upstate New York would be the road. Beautiful two-lane road that has twists turns and elevation changes. Love it. Just wish it was longer.

Agent OOR - ever take Seven Lakes Drive from Sloatsburg NY to Bear Mountain? Wow, what a nice drive. I did it recently top down in the R8 and figured it was about as good as it gets for a Bergen county boy.

Funny you bring up a Cannonball/Gumball-type run. I'd love to do one in an X6M.

@pcar4evr

I haven't really explored Seven Lakes Drive just because it seems to be a police hideout and carries the same issues as Mullholland Dr. on the west coast.

Maybe I'll have to check it out this summer.

Mt Diablo (Northern CA) in my Boxster is pretty sweet. For a totally different experience, I'd like to do a coast-to-coast in a Jaguar XF-R, Cannonball style.

BMW 1M driving up highway 1. All the tight turns and being along the coast would be a blast to drive.
