VIDEO: Did General Motor's Prepare A Toyota Takedown With The All-New 2014 Chevrolet Impala?
If you subscribe to Consumer Reports' beliefs, you may draw that conclusion after seeing this video.

But I have to say, after driving the all-new 2013 Toyota Avalon I won't be surprised if the Impala can overtake it in delivering a better experience. And that should be a scary thought to the folks in Japan.

On paper the Impala doesn't seem like it can mess this one up, even with GM as the captain of the ship. The platform is shared along the likes of the Buick LaCrosse, which was borrowed from Opel. In addition, it uses the GM family 3.6-liter V6 that puts down 303 horsepower.

While Chevrolet definitely blew it with the 2013 Malibu, it looks like the 2014 Impala could be the vehicle that gains a bit of our trust back.

We'll let you know after we get behind the wheel.

The Chevolet Impala gets a major redesign, making it much more modern and finally competitive against other large sedans.

Jetta/Passat front-end with an Equis rear side profile and GM's trademark "so we didn't finish designing rear-end, but 6/10 found it pleasing and 8*10 thought it was fair so we stopped."

I'm sure the Impala will sell well to the rental car companies and in the mid-west. Kia/Hyundai may loose some sells, as will Ford, but Toyota will be fine.

I think the boring Toyota is more likely to lose to this than Ford.

Looks like an Avalon to me...

Just looking at the photos, it looks like a nice enough sedan. Still don't understand the late 90's f-150 looking steering wheel. I know it's a small detail to some but to me, it can make or break an interior. Maybe it's the chevy logo that makes me think "pickup truck" every time i see it... I don't know... something just isn't right.

Anybody shopping for an Avalon should also look at this.

Car design and performance edge over the Avalon aside, I can't help but think the people that buy Impalas and Avalons are going to think heavily about reputation behind quality/reliability/economy and with those criteria, GM isn't going to gain ANY ground on Toyota. It's kind of like the Malibu 3 years ago, the press made a big deal out of it because it's such a departure from previous Chevrolet, but after 2 years of comparison to current Honda, Toyota and Ford, the Malibu is still trailing by a fair margin. My guess is that the same will be with the Impala. Chevrolet is experiencing a slow death as far as I'm concerned. And yes, I have driven the latest Malibu and Impala (not this one but the expiring one).
